KrisFlyer 15% Transfer Bonus! [Offer Extended to Jan 16th 2021]

anyone waiting on VA to SQ points transfer re-instating news before jumping gun on the 15% bonus? at 1.55 to 1 (if old rate is re-instated) you'd have 0.77 SQ for 1 Amex point (with VA 20% bonus promo) compared to 0.575 SQ with this promo.

How does this make sense? 1 amex = 0.625 velocity (with the 25% bonus) = 0.4 SQ if you do it this way.

Just realised Amex changed VA to 2:1 as well. So this only stands if you still have those Diners cards.

Shows you that I haven't been transferring any of my points for well over 2yrs now! :D

So yes, you're spot on with the rate!

Unlikely for VA to SQ reinstating. General consensus. Also, velocity just sent out. Also, velocity sent out an email tooting many things. And the VA to SQ was not mentioned when it would have been the icing on the cake :(

I suspect the reason for this is because SQ/VA need to re-apply for ACCC re-authorisation.

Dunno about that. Latest answers to questions on our redemption pause and existing redemption bookings
We are working closely with Singapore Airlines to plan for the reintroduction of Reward Seats and the ability for members to transfer Points between the Velocity and KrisFlyer programs.

Makes me wonder whether there is a 'time impact' involved.

Does VA/SIA receive their cash payment for points transferred to the other as soon as the transfer is processed or is there some adjustment made to reflect historical redemption delays?

Similarly, if using VFF points to directly book a SIA seat using VFF (so not transferring to your Krisflyer account) - does VA receive the cash payment immediately, delayed somewhat, or only once the flight is taken?

Would consider but Singapore’s points expiry is too restrictive at the moment with travel this uncertain due to government restrictions

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I wanted to summarise the information gathered here on the forum about taking the chance to transfer credit card points to KrisFlyer miles to receive a 15% bonus and KrisFlyer Elite Silver or Elite Gold status and the opportunity to extend the validity of KrisFlyer miles.
These two topics seem to be somehow related and appear here most often. The question is whether they are connected, and if so, how.
Transferring bank points to the KrisFlyer loyalty program in the amount to be converted into more than 50K KrisFlyer miles gives an additional 15% bonus. Great!
To benefit from this promotion, we would need to complete this operation by 22 November.
It can also give you a one-year KrisFlyer Elite status membership (Silver or Gold - depending on the number of miles earned).
This offer is valid until the end of February 2022.
For most of us, it would be better if the achievement of Elite status took place later (because it will end later – or in practice: "last longer"). However, if one intends to transfer a more significant number of points from credit cards to KrisFlyer program, postponing it until the end of February deprives us of the opportunity to earn a 15% bonus when redeeming for KrisFlyer miles.
I think it all comes down to two issues. What is worth more: one-year KrisFlyer Elite status from February, or 15% more miles when redeeming them earlier in November. As far as I understand, none of the options will affect the duration of validity of miles already in our KrisFlyer accounts - PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.
We can now ignore that miles earned in February will be longer valid than those achieved in November. If it matters, we can do a bank points transfer to KrisFlyer in May, July or anytime later, and they would be valid even longer. The main difference will be that there will no longer be 15% bonus in either case.
What's important to me is that my accumulated over 1M KrisFlyer miles will expire next April and my new Elite Status would not help extend their validity. Therefore, wouldn't it be better for me to take advantage of the 15% promotion now, in November, and at least partially make up for the expected losses?
KrisFlyer Elite status doesn't give me anything new. Since I always try to travel in J, I still get access to business class lounges, increased baggage allowance and priority check-in. Is there anything else I have forgotten?
Please share your opinions. Any information can be valuable.

At a quick glance, have you considered that gold status means you can extend existing points for 12 months instead of just 6 months?

If this is the case, it would change the approach. I confess I have not come across this information other than to say that Krisflyer miles have the same validity period regardless of status.
Could you please attach a link to the information you have provided?

Sorry don't have a link right now but if you search on SQ website you'll find info - from memory you pay $12US for each 1000 miles you extend - and you can extend miles for 6 months if u don't have status and 12 months if u have Gold status

Thank you, Bell21. I will try to find more details.

For now, this is the only information I found on the KrisFlyer website:

Rolling over Elite miles earned to the next membership year (with membership start date from March 2021 – February 2022)

1. How will this initiative benefit me as a KrisFlyer Elite Silver or Elite Gold member? When will the rolled over Elite miles be available in my account in my new membership year?

Any Elite miles earned through air and non-air accruals during the qualification cycle will also be carried forward after your membership year has been extended

Your Elite miles will first be reset to zero upon membership extension and re-credited to you within two months from the start of your new membership cycle.

Each KrisFlyer Elite member will be eligible for a one-time re-crediting of Elite miles
Only Elite miles accrued within your KrisFlyer Elite membership year (with membership start date between 1 March 2020 and 1 March 2021) will be re-credited.

KrisFlyer Elite Silver members who are upgraded to KrisFlyer Elite Gold tier before their KrisFlyer Elite Silver membership end-date will also be eligible for a one-time re-credit of Elite miles within two months of the upgrade date.

Members who upgraded from KrisFlyer Elite Silver to KrisFlyer Elite Gold after 1 March 2021 from any status match programmes or accelerator campaigns will not be eligible for the rolling of Elite miles

I think it is different to above - will try to remember to find you a link tonight

Yes, please.

In the meantime I found a table that confirms your information, but unfortunately not on the Singapore Airlines website. It was last updated in April 2019, so not sure if it is still relevant

My pleasure - that's the link I was just about to send you - also, I believe that you can extend eg, 6 months, and still book ahead approximately about a year ahead beyond that new extended expiry date too.

It is true, I know that in addition to the extension of the validity of miles, you also have a waiting period to start your journey.
I still believe that Singapore Airlines' approach is to blame for the current situation. If we had eg. 27 months worth of miles when the borders closed, we should get our 27 months back today when the borders open. However, this situation appears to have been used by the airline to make savings at the expense of its loyal customers.
Please do not misunderstand me. I have always liked Singapore Airlines, I find their service in many ways clearly superior to that offered by our Qantas. However, this time they failed.
Even now, when you have pointed me in the direction of the right information that I was missing, the stain on the reputation of Singapore Airlines will remain.
Anyway, that's life :)
Thanks again

Does that present risks if a flight is cancelled or changed?
