My TA told me today that my JSA/DMZ day trip has been cancelled. Seems a shame, I wasn't due to go on it for a couple of weeks. I guess they are just being cautious.....

That's a pity. Was it just for the day of your tour or are they all cancelled for a specific period?

Am currently doing my planning and booking for Japan in May/June and hoping all stays well.

Not sure. I am hoping it is just for the day of my tour, but I will try and find out and report back...

I have a DMZ tour scheduled for tomorrow and it appears to be definitely going ahead.

Don't worry Big Donald has it. As soon as he works out which way to point his ships in the bath and head them for Korea.

Well I have just been to the DMZ and all looked very peaceful; the only jarrring note was a intermittent background of artillery gunfire which we aere assured was "our side" doing training.

I'm also still in Anyang and peaceful out here too. everyone wants to talk football and baseball and there is no discussion on the other matter, as simply there is nothing to talk about!

We head to South Korea in 3 weeks with one of those Singapore airlines mistake fares. Looking forward to it as we have never been. Good to hear the DMZ Tours are stil going cause I really wanted to do that . Any tips for seoul ? Like things to see , eat ?

Best to stay around the city, Sungnyemun / Namdaemun and the markets. The subway is one of the best in world; clean, safe and you will love just before the train arrives they play music! I suggest to do some planning what you want to see, because jumping on and off the subway is not like Paris or London as some parts are very boring, no shops, just high rise buildings. And the food, be prepared for a lot of garlic! traditional Korean bbq are great with the charcoal, but be careful when you drink soju as it can catch up on you quickly. with a mouthful of chili and garlic it goes down too well. They are big coffee drinkers, but mot of it is like the American rubbish, but there are good places around the city. (buy a top-up subway card from 7 eleven, makes life easier)

Oh, of course I forgot to mention the staple dish of kimchi! It generally varies from place to place if it is homemade or local, but Koreans are not happy a lot of it comes from China now. A few of my friends swear they can tell the difference. I'm ok with the hot and spicy cabbage at night or kimchi soup, but I really cannot eat it for breakfast. Korea's vegemite!

I visited this morning - thoroughly enjoyed the tour but I must admit, I was wondering what all the noise was!

I missed this thread - was in Seoul Sun to Wed this week. Went on a DMZ tour Tuesday.

My hotel was the choice for the US VP Mon/Tue; I really felt 'safe' with dozens of strapping young men in black suits all around the lobby / corridors / restaurant areas.

Saw a few welcoming SK groups with signs along the lines of "Welcome Mike Pence - bomb NK now!".

Biggest talking point today in the office here outside of Seoul was Trump saying that Korea was formally part of China. It really has offended many people and I'm surprised by some of the passion shown by some of the staff. Certainly continues the Trump vein of not understanding the world, but I'm sure it will be dismissed as Fake News or alternative facts. Maybe he was referring to that other Korea in the parallel universe!

One for the how to win friends and influence people, NOT!

Just booked In for dinner at jungsik. We are staying in myeongdong at hotel28.
We arrive at 2230 on plane and was just thinking of booking a transfer , not sure I can be bothered trying to figure out how to get to the hotel that late at night

Just packing now to get to ICN, another great week in Korea. one drink to try is the rice wine, sold in plastic bottles and looks like milk. Around 5% alcohol and needs to be fresh. Can catch up with you very quickly, but great to have with BBQ.

The noisy neighbours rarely got a mention but people here (like many others) not impressed with Trumps China statement. If you are here in the next three weeks, they have the election for President. 15 candidates and the banners list them by number. Looks like it is between no. 1 and 3, but great to see the way they rally, on the back of trucks with big TV screens, dancing girls, in the team, sorry party, colours.

Now for a long few days ICN > HKG > MEL > SYD > SFO > RNO all by Monday!
