Well, this time last year (two months after my annual QFF status/renewal deadline) I was sitting back with a sigh thinking "geez - thank fark I (just) re-qualified for Gold AGAIN".

I travel quite a bit but 90% in cattle class/discount economy and have done for a few years and always the same - come end of August it was always touch n go if I'd hit what I always thought of as "that elusive 600 SC" mark to keep my long time QF Gold status.

Well peeps - not any more! Thanks to joining AFF and spending a few late nights jerrying up on the best ways to earn/use/plan etc I am a changed man. My travel schedule has not varied that much and here I am now nearly 3 months into my QFF year and I already have just over 1000 SC's under my belt. Geezus - I'll now have to start flying DJ after Chrissy to look at keeping my newly gifted Velocity WP :)

I now know about things I'd never heard of before like "JASA's", "status runs" and optimising routings for the best earn etc etc. BRILL!

Big thanks AFF community :D

(PS.. OK, sure Mrs Shambles is pretty dark on me now that what used to be a pretty direct annual trip to Japan suddenly becomes MEL-SYD-CNS-NRT-CNS-SYD-MEL but hey... nothing some time in the Int First lounge can't fix on our next holiday ;) )

There are many of us here who can tell a similar story. I'm going to qualify next year for my third year as WP thanks only to the advice and discussions here.

My kids still wonder why I fly such convoluted routes when I go away.

Excellent to hear shambles. :) I'm sure mrs shambles will come around after a bit of Flounging.

I am purely a young leisure traveller who does not travel for work (at this point of my career) and thanks to the knowledge of this forum I have gone from a NB to PS and soon a SG just before my membership year ends. My trip to Europe (using mostly Oneworld airlines), NZ and two JASA's domestically will help me reach the magical 700 SC's required. Can't wait to have lounge access, especially for those overseas trips on a budget! The sky is the limit!

Welcome both Dudditz and Shambles.
enjoy... it is somewhat addictive

I am also just a leisure traveller but work while I travel (self employed). I've applied for a few credit cards with FF points over the years but really haven't known quite what I was doing... I hope to become as knowledgeable as you guys with the goal being a first or business class RTW trip on award points. But first, I need to read up and ask lots of questions here :) See you round!

Hi guys. Being a newbie, I am keen to learn how to get more SC points. Can someone direct me to a thread please .

Thanks.

I am trying to explain to Mrs Spatsky why i am having a stopover on the way back from LHR. Its so i get the extra SCs of course!! She does not understand...

Mrscove has had trouble adjusting to us not having bought an airline ticket in Australia in the last 3 odd years. All it took was one post from JS and the old rat up a drainpipe syndrome took hold and we now go J or First and we even take or send hangers on like our kids ,relies and friends. Of course it is SQ for friends.

Couldn't agree more that knowledge is power after reading how other AFF members maximize their travel benefits. Currently working on my SC run strategy, as I will fall about 60 SC short of WP by the time of my renewal. Would never have thought of such a plan without this site ;)

Ok, hands up all the dummies. What is SC and WP or am I the only one?

SC is for status credits. You earn them when you fly on paid tickets or on ANY SEAT flights you get using frequent flyer points.
WP is a Platinum status member at Qantas.
If you visit your Qantas account have a look at how many status credits you have earned this year so far.
It is a little less important than how many frequent flyer points you have to fly somewhere.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm with you Cove - Suddenly I got a lot of new friends - who like or look forward to SQ. Particularly appreciate the info re ATO not available elsewhere !
Had to convince my accountant. He now pays his tax by Amex ! (Wonder if I will get a discount from him in return ?)
Trouble is I have now become addicted to the AFF site !:D

Well Tired Old Flyer that was me on the Tax Office phone line this morning.....133,973 points for $480 .....now that is so sweet using a Visa card for Kris points.
I would love you to tell us on the blog about Asiana and others that you use as being an old accountant I tend to follow Grounghog Day methods.
Ask your tax accountant politely for champagne and chocolates for the tip you gave him because every time you try to call him he will be travelling!

Crikey! I was pretty pleased when I got 60,000 points for $500 this afternoon paying a tax bill.
I also want to express my appreciation for all of the advice from this site. I used to think that the only people who benefitted from frequent flyer programs were the ones who flew every week of the year. While I doubt that I'll ever get it down to the fine art of others on this site, I now understand at least some of the intricacies of SCs, JASAs and KUPPS. Thank you so much!
