Does anyone know if knitting is allowed these days on domestic and international flights?

Dinty,

Welcome to AFF. :D

My wife is a chronic knitter and knits on most flights.

Our recent experience is that JQ do not allow knitting needles and some of the security staff do not know that knitting needles are OK again these days. Sometimes security will ask you to take the needles out to examine them but that's about all.

Here's the advice I've received.

  • Wooden needles not metal ones.
  • Your cheap needles not your $200 pairs in case they get confiscated.
  • Established projects are preferred as it's then obvious you are a knitter.
  • Have a lifeline in your project in case you have to lose the needles.
  • Small projects such as socks are ideal.
PM me if you want more advice. Or check out Ravelry. It's easy to sign up to and has amazing information. It's like AFF but for knitters
