If anybody in future is staying at Le Meridien or Hilton at Sentral, then i like the steak resaurant at Le Meridien called "Prime" compared to decent steak in Singapore its actually well priced, and not that far off what yo would pay in Australia.

Why would anyone from Australia go to KL to eat steak??!!;). After reading all the above, I can't wait to visit KL again! Got 2 trips planned this year...one in July, the other in December.

Is Kobe Beef considered to be steak?

There is an all-you-can-eat Brazilian BBQ house on Chankat Bukit Bintan, about opposite The Green Man pub. But don't expect any barbecued pork ribs  . A good place for the carnivorous or vegetablly-challenged.

I would. :p

After checking out the local cusine it's usually very comforting to eat something familiar.

Because i last year and this year i have not spent all that much time in Australia to eat steak, i more or less live in Singapore when i am not traveling (atleast until the end of the year when my contract ends).

KL is of course a nice close destination thats just different from Singapore for a weekend. I think some of work colleagues think i am a bit strange that i will just up an leave for another country for a weekend (or a steak)

But really the steak is good :)

One of the reasons i stay at Sentral is i find the train great and from there you can get to anywhere by taxi you may want to go.
If i am working in KL then i stay at Petaling Jaya Hilton since our office is just down the road.

If you eating local the there is some nice foods, and i love the satay, but i could not name the good places i just know where i need to walk to get to them.

hahaahaha, very funny !
(Sorry i missed reading exactly what shellfish it was you ate that made you react, is lobster off the menu also ?)

Atleast lobster is better than crab ! I am not sure about QF009 but I hate food that i have to spend more time find than eating !

I was told to avoid all shellfish. But in any case it was both lobster AND crab.

And in response to NM - yep I do love steak and eat it no matter what part of the world I'm in. Along with pork ribs and lamb. :D

The port ribs can be hard to find in KL. But you can get a real bacon sandwich at The Green Man pub ;) .

Bak Kut Teh - pork ribs, Malaysian style.

Bak kut teh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I got pretty freaked out by the "additional ingredients" the first time I had it, but the pork and soup are very yummy and I learnt to ignore the weird bits. I found a restaurant that excludes the exotic bits from the soup though - I'd supply its name but I can't remember it (they do wear tacky yellow t-shirts).

I would recommend the train over getting a taxi from the airport. The roads can be congested and the taxi take a very long time. At least if you catch the train you know you'll be at Sentral in a set amount of time. Like has been mentioned, a Taxi from Sentral is prepaid at the booth, or other forms of public transport will get you there.

If wanting to do the Petrona's towers tour, make sure you get there early in the morning. Only a certain number of tickets are given out for the tour and it's basically a first in best dressed type of situation. You should be able to find out more on the net about how many tickets and opening times etc. When I did it, I got there about an hour before opening, and the queue was already snaking around quite a bit. Not sure how long the tickets would normally last.

There's also a new high end shopping mall opening opposite the Westin on Bintang, name of which escapes me now.

Here's the mall I was thinking about:
Pavilion-KL.com

It was still under construction when I was last there in September last year. Can't wait to check it out on my next visit, whenever that is.

Summary of trip...I ended up just grabbing a premium teksi from KLIA to Crowne Plaza and it took just 35 minutes to get into the city with only one toll on the way so that was probably just as fast as the train once you take into account waiting times for the next train and walking/transit time at Sentral etc. Disclaimer - I had a teksi driver that was sitting on 140kph for most of the trip but the new freeway is great - there were hardly any cars at all and this was just after 4pm.

Crowne Plaza is a very nice hotel with a great executive lounge (better than the Interncontinental in Singapore). Fantastic location with a very easy stroll to all of the great sights and shopping of Bintang walk and the staff at the hotel are very very friendly (it's like they have known you for years). I am going back in May and will be staying there again.

Also, I am now a convert to (1) carry on luggage only and (2) the APEC card:) My seat on the flight from Sin to Per was 52C which clearly meant I was never going to be the first off the plane or at immigration but thanks to having carry on luggage only (which is the only way I will travel now) and the APEC card this is how it developed once we landed at PER - unfasten seatbelts at 0140hrs...getting into car and driving out of airport at 0146hrs:p By the time I got to the immigration hall there was a massive line of pax but I went straight to the front with the APEC card and with no luggage to collect (or anything to declare having only been away 1 night) was straight through AQIS and out the door in a flash!! Best $200 I have ever spent.

I didn't end up getting any QC2's but got a great deal on a new Tag at the duty free store at PER departure terminal ($750 of the marked price on the watch, just by asking for the very best price).

True (and I have done in the past) but this time I wanted one that would last longer than a month without the Tag logo unsticking from the face of the watch;)
