I mentioned a Hotel Car park in SYD, this is quite large with many parking spots; it's a very quiet area. It is a few years since I did this but most of the park is completely out of sight of the Hotel's front entrance/reception areas.
Why not park next door at Kogarah Golf Club. No one is going to ask you to move along and if you have some time then bring along your putter and use the practice greens while waiting.

For Sydney International arrivals pickups, why not just use one of the hotel shuttle buses to take you to a nearby hotel where your lift can collect you without suffering the wrath of the Macquarie Bank Police Dept.

There are plenty of places (Krispy Kreme is my personal favourite as you can park car, get a coffee if you want and read the paper;)) to wait in your car @ Syd....the problem is the actual pick up of passengers (as mentioned in my post above) at International (T1) arrivals

A bit embarassing to ask your overseas guests to do this...:oops:asking them to wait at the Departure level was much more accepatable when it could be done previously. Also the above method adds extra waiting time but agree it is an option to avoid contributing to the MB's coffers:evil:

Massport, who administer Massachusetts transport have just built a Cell Phone lot at Logan and have been advertising it very heavily. I flew in from Syracuse last night and heard two people talking to partners prior to departure telling them to park in the lot and they would call when on the ground.

Melbourne could really do with this, as I'm sure other Australian airports could, although I suspect they would be happy for people to pay for parking.

AND IN ALL CASES - if you have a rental car, just pull into the return bays.. drop into the rental office, let them know you are picking up your partner... always more with honey approach, and have never had a problem with that... always lock it and take the keys with... just in case an over zealous agent wants to check your car back in :D

Now I used to do this, but had a problm in Melb a few years back with Avis who wouldn't let me. Since then I haven't had a need to. Whom do you rent with?

Funny story, did this at DRW once when the AVIS bays were immediately adjacent to the side entrance doors. Parked the car there very early am (Avis not open yet) for a flight, and returned very late pm (Avis closed) and took the car again. When dropping it off a few days later the Avis people told us there was a huge pannic on there as no one could find the keys for the car, then someone realised when looking through the windows that there was still personal items in the car.

Thrifty, and have done this at SYD and BNE. Good idea on leaving some personal effects visible.

However, I can't recall whether at OOL or MCY but they have installed boom gates at the exit to the rental car park that requires a pin to open the gate! I haven't been back since to see if the pin is the same each time.
