Kingfisher faces shutdown in 30-60 days?

All jokes aside, Kingfisher is (was?) the best airline in India, IMHO.

Unfortunately they will be passed over for any support, with the India Government keeping Air India afloat and the rest of the LCC will sort it out amongst themselves.

I'll take your word for it on the quality of Kingfisher, but no point being good if you're bleeding cash.

Having to compete against the inferior, government owned Air India may not be fair, but if an entity wanted to exist in the free market independent of the government, then any support from the government should not be expected.

That's the rules and the game. Kingfisher lost. I really wish Mallya would do the honorable thing and fold up the airline amicably rather than trashing the workforce and putting up a pathetic charade that his airline still has a life.

Kingfisher was quiet good I agree.

They where able to deliver top-notch quality product, up there with the likes of SQ or CX.

Pity the back end of the business couldn't support the front end...

There is still another full service airline in India besides Air India, 9W (Jet Airways) Not to be confused with J* :p

Have flown with Jet Airways many times and found them really good, also you can earn QFF points flying on them.

I forgot about Jet.

I've only had one flight with them (BOM-DEL) and IIRC they were quite good as well.

I agree that Jet Airways will easily match with Kingfisher. I have flown them twice and the service was good on both occasions. Infact the last time I flew Jet was because KF was cancelled and KF put me onto Jet all arranged by KF including standing in the queue for me.

I wish they would invite Jet Airways to join OW, given that Kingfisher probably never will.. The Indian subcontinent desperately needs something like this, as visitors from other countries ie australia can't really use any FF status benefits (lounge access, priority checkin, boarding.etc) on any of the domestic carriers.

The only limited example I have seen is on the Jet Airways operated flight with QF flight number codeshare at Mumbai to SIN airport they allow Qantas club, silver, gold and plat to checkin at the business counter of Jet Airways but other than that benefit nothing else is offered to QF status holders.

Just read that Emirates is in talks with Kinfisher and may consider injecting some funds into Kingfisher.

I reckon QF should buy them out and use it as the base for their 'Premium' Asian airline, they could get it for a song and a dance, re-brand and make a OW-affiliate..

Good idea.

They could call it Qant-Fisher or Jetstar-Fisher Airlines

Ignoring the ability to buy anything in India,
it would at least make QFi even more unprofitable.... the Indian aviation scene is more losses than the US market

Another nail in the coffin...

Kingfisher Airlines' License Set to Lapse - WSJ.com

Kingfisher are still listed on the oneworld web site as a prospective member.

I love the quote from Mr Mallaya on Feb 3 2012 "In light of the many priorities centred around Kingfisher Airlines' recapitalisation efforts, we felt it prudent to defer our entry into the alliance for a little while. This will allow us the opportunity to focus on the issues at hand and we look forward to being part of the oneworld alliance very shortly." ;)
