Hi there AFF brains trust,

I am hoping you can help me out. I have to come good on a "verbal contract" I supposedly have with my wife (men, FYI don't marry lawyer if you aren't one) I have 150K QF points and need to get her to Paris from either BNE or SYD, depart 26/12-28/12 and fly back between the 05/01-09/01. Can anyone advise me on the best use of these points- either QF award or oneworld award? I'm trying to do my own research but many hands make light work. She is only bronze QF so status is irrelevant in this case and so is the carrier(s). Any help would be much appreciated so I can start planning my next boys trip away.

Cheers, Dmitri

Unless she has an aversion to flying MH I would think they are very likely to have availability.

As painful as it sounds, keep your points for you and cough up and buy a seat on Singapore.

You'll never keep her happy but if you go cheap on the ticket you'll be opening yourself up for a "i told you so" moment on her return if not a perfect flight. This way you can say; well I bought a ticket on a good airline what else could I do. (minimise your exposure)

Best of luck.

Matt

Dmitri did your "verbal contract" specify a class of travel ie would you still be keeping her happy if she was in whY?

She will happily go cattle class. I actually think she will go in an indonesian fishing boat to get to Paris. I would love to get her in Y+ or J, but that could be wishful thinking.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Qantas have a global sale on at the moment I believe. Throw her into Y+ in an A380. Better service without the cost of J.

MH should be cheap but she may take the hint... :)

Just looked at AA.AY have a Y award available SIN-CDG on 23/12 and Y or J back on 12/1.
Or HKG-CDG Y available on 22,28,29/12 and J 29/12 on the outward leg.Y back 7.8/1
Or BKK-CDG Y available 22,23,26/12. Back Y is 12,13/1

I had a look and there's award seats available on MH from Sydney to Paris across your dates. There's also award seats for your dates from Paris to Sydney on a CX & MH combo. That's enough to qualify for a one world award. Should be quite easy to book your preferred itinerary over the phone.

Some dubious legal advice:
Try to settle. Give her 60% of your points and walk away.
If not, can you argue a technicality? Did the promise include you joining her on the trip? If you send her alone you save half your points and get some dmitri time.:)
Also, you say she's happy in whY, do you have that in writing/on tape? If so book in whY. When she complains - which she will because she's a lawyer - sue for entrapment?

Seriously though, you can't go wrong in Y+ or even J on MH as suggested by other posters. The little extras will make all the difference. Happy wife, happy life.
Good luck.
