... Actually always keep them locked when you dont need them unlocked...

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

It is a tricky one - in the UK in the 90s we were told to lock laptops in the boot as there was a spate of laptop bags being stolen off the back seat.

However growing up I was always told not to lock the doors just in case you have an accident and it impedes someone's attempts to rescue you.

Newer model cars all have safety releases inside the boot.

And if all else fails in the event of rescue required, we just pop the glass from a window to get in.

I've never felt unsafe driving around Sydney - though if I'm heading out west we use the motorways and if we need to use the small suburban streets I am 'vigilant' lol

I'm sure the staff at Sydney Airport were on top of this incident quickly, making sure the appropriate "No Stopping" fines were issued to all involved promptly!

It's amazing what adrenaline can do. I was two cars behind a t-bone accident. The guy in front got out of his car, ran to the car that was t-boned, and after realising the door was bent out of shape and couldn't be opened, proceeded to bend the window frame/top part of the door out and down to the point where he could get to the driver. Amazing sight I'll never forget.

Adrenaline is a wonderful thing. Whether naturally produced, or injected I have seen some remarkable results from its use over the years. Superhuman feats is just one of the 'side effects'

Can we really deduce that this event was a random car jacking? Police say that 99% of the time the attacker is known to the victim. Events like this don't point to Sydney becoming more dangerous unless they become a pattern. Was the attacker really attempting to jack a car? Especially if he had a getaway accomplice nearby? :-|

Yeah, dodge the upturned burning cars in my street and the riots down the road... ;-)

What accomplice , did you read the story, he was nabbed today BTW:

Nope. I was just following the established tradition of forum posting by writing a knee-jerk reaction to the basic gist of the OP. Hey! It seems to work for a lot of people here....

There are certain suburbs that when I drive through them my first action is to lock the doors. Nerang… Southport even… but never would have thought an airport would be that unsafe. I guess you'd think the criminal might realise how strict the place is already, so any action will have a swift response.

Uhmm lets not forget this was the aiport that the bikers murdered someone in.

When I was working at SYD I once had a stolen car dumped in front of my parked car blocking me in, ironically I was parked in front of the police station!

I agree. Keep your doors locked all the time. If an emergency service needs to get in, they can tap a window

For some reason when ever I go to Sydney it always seems the next day the area that I was in had a shooting... Makes me wonder how long before their is a citywide riot in Sydney like they had in London recently?

It isn't the police doing the shooting (mostly) so no real motivation for a riot. London also has much higher population density as well.

On a side note I mostly lock the car doors when I see the sign "arts and crafts fair now on"...
