KE to TLV

GCS, I don't have any info regarding your question but I wonder if you would share which airlines / route you would normally take from Australia to Israel?

The reason I ask is that about a year ago I looked at visiting Israel with family and found the available routes seemed to be both convoluted and expensive. I wish there was a simple connection with Singapore but it seems there isn't. I tried contacting El Al to pick up their flight through Mumbai but they seemed keen not to have any extra passengers on that flight. Due to the apartheid attitude of the countries surrounding Israel it appears the only other option is to fly to Europe then back to Israel, correct? Wasn't worth it for me as I wasn't going for business so I dropped the plan.

I have gone through Europe, most recently through Zurich with LX. I'd recommend avoiding going through Europe if you can.

The easiest route, though, is to pick up LY in either HKG or BKK (TG have a codeshare with LY from BKK).

The availible fare (normally around the $2K mark) allows you to use CX, QF, TG, VS to get to Asia.

I've tried a few different routes......

The quickest was a QF/LY fare that went SYD-HKG-TLV-BKK-SYD. The El Al planes are shabby but the pilots and security are top class, which makes them popular with the "locals" and hard to find seats.
The slowest was a QF/SR fare that had a 12-hour transit in Zurich on the way over, and about 6 hours on the way back. I wouldn't do that again.
The longest was QF/BA via LHR. If you can get past the BA dragons there is the possibility of a shower, but there is something demoralising about landing in a country you flew over 12 hours previously. I've done this twice but the second time I needed to return via Singapore and it was the only viable option.

I am about 50/50 to return to Tel Aviv this year so I'm all ears for a better way to get there.

Cheers,

Andrew

LY use a mix of 744, 767 and 777 on their Asian routes. The 767s are shabby, but the 777s are fine.

Another route is Royal Jordanian via Amman.
