MEL/PER/KTA QF775/QF1914

An early start saw me on the first flight to PER, on a Y class fare even! This squeeze on J travel is becoming a pain in the rear! (Literally)

I was lucky, the 767 was mostly empty and I was in the forward mini cabin, so was the reincarnation of the devil, I am sure I saw that baby levitating...

Flight was fast, service was good, Bose kept the screaming baby noise down and all in all, an OK flight...

A bit over an hour later into a 717 for a haul up to KTA, again, not a full flight howwever, exceptional service (fantastic lunch - J quality!!) even if the CSM couldn't get through the safety brief without giggling because her male up front FA was flirting with her...:!:

I was supposed to be in KTA for the whole of Friday, but Thursday night while out drinking with my customer, the call came in saying the site had been closed down due to a level 3 cyclone alert.

Cool, never had that happen before...

Qantas preimum number called - changed my late KTA/PER to QF907 (0830) KTA/PER. The Saturday PER/MEL I emailed my PA to change with the new flight details of the KTA/PER leg.

The QF call centre person gave me attitude! He questioned my reasons, he was generally abrupt and frankly, quite rude! Under different circumstances, I would have hung up and called the "other number" and started complaining like all hell had broken loose about this bloke - I didn't, I needed a flight out...

We arrived at KTA at 0700 for a 0830 departure - the first sign of trouble was the sea of white mine 4x4's with flags spewing out of the main carpark and the overflow carpark - this is an evacuation!!

The line of literally 100's of people streched through the airport and snaked... the ground staff were out of control and had no ability to control the mob.

People were missing flights due to the lack of ability of the ground staff to control the crowd. One ground staff member said to the group behind us - "yeah people will miss flights because we won't get them checked in"

There was a flight leaving KTA hourly QF with a couple of DJ flights as well. After "final boarding calls were made for 907, I pushed my way through the crowd (who were mostly waiting for the next flight!) and managed to secure a seat in 6 and my mate in 18.

There was no priority line and to make matters worse, the idiot ground staff at one stage - everyone of them were attending a family of 4 trying to check on 2 prams and other stuff!!! That left 2 ticketing booths vacant with an angry mob missing flights - it helps it seems if you know the ground staff!

I got onto my flight, so did one of my managers, but a lot of people didn't

No contingency in place for an evacuation situation left me bewildered as to the lack of organisation shown by the flying roo. DJ had fewer flights therefore didn't have the same problem as QF, but what a shambles.

I would put this down to an experience I will remember for some time...

A 2 hour wait at the QP in PER and I was winging it home in J on QF476 -A fast smooth flight with a couple of bourbon & cokes to steady the nerves after the KTA experience!
