K2 Airways flight goes missing over Pakistan

There are major fears that the very worst has happened after a Boeing 737 suddenly went missing after departing the Middle East.

When looking at playback of the flight, the plane appeared to simply vanish off the coast of Pakistan, losing all contact with air traffic control after taking off from the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority said search and rescue teams had been deployed to the Arabian Sea after the aircraft went missing late on Tuesday night.

The cause of the incident is not yet known and the aircraft is yet to be found.

The Boeing 737, operated by Karachi-based K2 Airways, was a cargo plane with five people on board, travelling from Sharjah in the UAE to Karachi, Pakistan.

The crew reported a navigation system issue at around 9.18pm local time.

That is happened in the Gulf of Oman could be significant given the current geopolitical situations. However and Importantly, the airspace does not appear to have been closed

The final received data point from the aircraft was at 16:21 UTC, placing the aircraft at 1,100 ft AMSL with a reported vertical rate of -22,400 feet per minute.

There was initial GNSS jamming getting out of SHJ but eventually the ADSB data was available once it exited the GNSS jamming area

The US Central Command would have detailed satellite information.

I can't see why GPS jamming would have any relevance. And if it's being spoofed, you can just turn updating off.

They're quite a long way from Hormuz. If just off the coast of Iran, you'd have to wonder, but nowhere near.

Supposedly reported some sort of navigational issue, but no detail. That's interesting, but hardly conclusive. IRUs? It does look a bit like loss of control.

And whilst a fair way from Iran, where was the US navy?

I can't see why GPS jamming would have any relevance.

The accident area was reported to be outside the GNSS/GPS jamming area so should not have been an issue

It looked like there was a long period of stable cruise, then a descending slow spiral and increasing ground speed. Eventually altitude levels off at FL300 and 508kts (GS) .

But then heading stops changing and altitude increases to FL366 approx but GS bled off to 211kts. Then heading changes again and aircraft enters a rapid descent

Something happens to take aircraft out of stable flight
Startle effect and autopilot off?. Disorientation - slow spiral descent
Recognition of slow spiral descent then overcorrection causing high altitude stalll?
