I just think that it is plain reckless for Qantas to be trying to encourage people to fly overseas at the moment after the government's advice yesterday to rethink any unnecessary overseas travel. Obviously anyone booking now won't be covered by travel insurance for anything Covid-19 related and the last thing we need now is more Aussies stuck overseas ill with no travel insurance.

I don't think that the Aussie travel industry is going to do very well unless it shows some flexibility though, trying to book a 12 night holiday costing about $8000 starting in two weeks time and pointed out to the holiday operator that while we can get travel insurance it won't cover us for cancellation due to Covid-19 and so I asked them if they would guarantee a refund if either of the two us got the virus and we couldn't come or if the government grounded the airlines due to Covid-19 - NO was the response so it looks like we won't be going anywhere and will just cancel the booking with QF to Bali instead of rebooking to an Aussie destination.

I favour the cough-up theory here. Offer was probably planned a few days ago to be issued automatically this weekend and no-one thought to make sure it didn't go out.

Money in the bank?

I also received this offer, and I also won't be taking it up. I understand that revenue management wants to fill seats, but it is a very poor look at this time.

If I book one of there flights, I would need to also plan my 14 day self quarantine on return to Australia.

I received it too. I was astounded given the govt advice to reconsider travel overseas. if it had been for end of calendar year rather than end of financial year travel, it might have been more credible.

Don't forget some folk are Asian and need to get home. Or Aussies working overseas.

Bordering on negligent behaviour in the current climate.
Yes agreed and see that. What do we suggest, closing international operations completely? Why don't QFA do that.
