The free flight more than pays for itself and then the points and insurance are comparable to the platinum charge card.

Am I missing something?

I don't know ... isn't the Amex Disco card still free? Pretty hard to beat that :)

But I hear what you are saying and I have one myself, PER-MEL freebie flight makes it a keeper. Fairly annoyed that utilities/government/insurance only pays 0.5p/$ spent now though, which guarantees another card is required for that spend, but otherwise, it earns its keep on fuel, food and the free flight.

Thank you Moopere :)

I'm 22 and just stepped into my first Amex. I was confused as to why the charge card was $900, is there some benefit that adds $750 to the annual fee (and lack of free flight) that I'm missing?

Maybe not $750 value but if you have a Plat Charge card you can access an Edge or Reserve credit card at no additional cost.

There's a whole thread in here about the Platinum Charge Card (something along the lines of 'what do I get for $900?) - there are many benefits...

Most of the benefits are travel related, and as someone else has pointed out you get a free Reserve card with your Charge card and this entitles you to a free flight.

You can also redeem your points for QF if you choose - most cards now are QF only or something else... you rarely get the choice anymore.
