I just want to say at the outset, I am not upset and don't expect anything. I am just after some understanding. :-)

I just got a call from Qantas about my SYD-MEL flight tomorrow morning saying J is full and they were ringing around for volunteers to take an earlier or later flight. I said yes and am going 30mins earlier, so no biggie.

I was curious how they decide who to call. Is it arbitrary or based on status? Or do they target solo travellers like me first? I am only a silver FF but the J ticket is a paid one.

Thanks, pw.

Probably a combination of status, how large your travelling party is (vs the number of seats they need) and lack of International or other flight connections.

It's also possible a flight was canceled and they were trying to redistribute passengers.

Slightly off topic, but today on QF449 Syd-Mel, equipment change from Int config A333 to VH-ZXC without notice, had been A333 for 3 months blah! The Csm noted my displeasure upon boarding of the change, I wanted family to get a taste before booking long-haul with Skybeds. They went above and beyond with everyone in the cabin, including a bottle of the Red as a take home and sorry for the late change. So maybe there are a few changes in the schedule this festive season.

Thanks everyone.

As I said, no biggie. It's not a lot of flying time. I'll have my head buried in my book in any case. :-)

Not that it answers the original question but perhaps some background information on changes to aircraft. Ground delay program was introduced into Brisbane (and I think Melbourne) last Wednesday. On Friday there were almost 700 movements scheduled for Brisbane (that's rather high). Got to work this morning and talk was that some flights were cancelled by airlines because they could not take some of the delays and position the aircraft as required. This is not an official statement.

Also, this is in no way an official statement or comment on the ground delay program.

That was decent of them to recognise you in this manner.

Well done
