Jetstar do this when a flight is delayed by a day.

To avoid having two flights on the same day with the same flight number, the delayed service becomes JQ10XX (or JQ1xx_ for domestic routes).

Other airlines renumber in similar ways with Qantas adding a D to the flight so it becomes QF9D for example.

It just happened to us today. Flight cancelled, but replaced by another flight with 10 as prefix. So jq35 became jq1035 and we were forced to ‘rebook’ a ‘cancelled’ flight. Customer service agent tried to not give too much detail. But in the end we worked out that they’d changed the aircraft from a 788 to a321. This meant 80isj less seats available on ‘same’ flight so unless you were quick to respond to their text Re cancelled flight, you’d miss out and be forced to choose another flight, at another time or even another day. I wish they’d be more honest with reasons for changes!

How long before the flight did you receive a text to say it was cancelled? And did you have to rebook via text or you had to speak to an agent? What options were you offered with flight times?

I’ve had JQ35 changed from a B787 to an A321neo.

The flight stayed as JQ35 and operated as scheduled.
