Limewood have me a heads up re an announcement in CNS today, speculation is pointing towards more Osaka services, I believe this will be at the cost of some MEL-SIN services.

I have a feeling it could be:
-CNS-GUM
-CNS-HNL
-CNS-KIX increase
-CNS-SIN
I have a feeling it could be big as various members from TTNQ are attending.

If JQ are planning to set up in HKG, then what about :
CNS-HKG?
CNS-GUM-HKG?

Or
CNS-GUM-KIX

Given TTNQ are attending, then the focus may be on inbound, so Japan, HKG / China would be targets.

I think CNS-HNL is very unlikely.

Friend of mine works at CNS airport told me recently there will be a new JQ route CNS/HNL/CNS commencing July, only time will tell if correct, the big wigs from JQ are in Cairns today to make a big announcement this morning, so the press says.

Confirmed Osaka Daily during peak season:
Daily flights Osaka - Cairns

Jetstar announced today that they will increase their direct flights between Osaka and Cairns to daily from 31 July - 1 September. This is great news for Japanese visitors to Cairns and locals keen to travel to Japan.

MEL-SIN has disappeared on Sat & Tue. I hope this compels Scoot to fly to MEL sooner.

Interesting.. Though it's only 1 month on the increase.
Look forward to reviewing the inbound/outbound source & stats for this sector.

Only one month worth of extra.

So 4 per week goes to daily.

Assuming JQ have ~300 seats that's an extra 900 x 4 weeks.

Am I right to feel that this isnt paticularly earth shattering?

Its a let down really, at least its not QF cancelling routes then JQ taking them up and then announcing all the extra JQ seats (non), all smoke and mirrors.

At least in Cairns my local eatery doing up to 200 extra covers a day due to the huge influx of Chinese visitors, can only be good.

I wish they would just do something innovative with the MEL-SIN schedules, now we will just have JQ mirroring QF schedule, what's the point of double daily at the same time. For selfish reasons, I'd like a JQ schedule that did SIN-MEL departing around 2:30pm (and SIN-MEL at either 1am or 7am).

doesn't EK operate MEL-SIN also? i would think they probably want JQ off the route altogether given there are probably competing for similar market segments (leisure etc).

Probably, once ACCC has cleared the agreement and not before ;)

Although I suspect the EK flight is going to become very popular due to it's timing because the QF timetable basically sucks if you are booking a return trip from SIN. Also in the evenings out of Singapore, you have EK, QF & JQ all going at similar times - why not have a nice afternoon departure on JQ, people can still connect from morning flights (or in my case work half a day), and avoid the horrid overnight down to MEL. (yes I would take a JQ A330 afternoon flight over and above an overnight on QF A330 or EK 3-4-3 configured 777)

I was under the impression that JQ was supposed to be successful on the MEL-SIN service?

Well I've never been on a JQ flight MEL_SIN that wasn't pretty full.

Maybe they're feeling the heat from Scoot et al (but that Air Asia X is woeful!!).

I am also think if Air Asia is going to push into CNS market.
