I notice that Jetstar recently introduced a couple of changes to its Price Beat Guarantee T&Cs:

  • 1. Your flight must be leaving, or your holiday must be commencing 7 days or more after you start the online chat (this has changed from 72 hours).
    2. We've introduced a Fair Use Policy to ensure that all of our passengers can continue to benefit from our Price Beat Guarantee.

Price Beat Guarantee | Jetstar

According to the new "fair use policy", price beat requests may be rejected if Jetstar suspects the customer is exploiting the guarantee for commercial gains or making duplicate bookings.

Interesting.
Change to 7 days is disappointing although most of my matches have been to long lead time Tiger fares.

Don't know quite what to make of clause 2, suspect it's to deal with one or two people.

I have used 3K a number of times this year, all using the PBG, as their normally pricing has rivalled that of the full service airlines. I wonder how many bookings 'excessive' is?

Unreasonable use
Some examples of unreasonable use include, but are not limited to:

  • commercially exploiting the Price Beat Guarantee by reselling fares without passing on the savings to the passenger, and
  • using the Price Beat Guarantee to make duplicate bookings.
If we believe your use of the Price Beat Guarantee is unreasonable or excessive, we may limit or reject your future Price Beat Guarantee claims.

So one of the things they're essentially stopping you from doing is reserving a couple seats to spread out. Seems like a fair policy.

Considering booking OOL-SYD on JQ at $55 each way using JQ gift vouchers.

There are TT flights both ways within an hour of JQ flight for $33. So as soon I book the JQ flights use Online chat to request price beat?

Does JQ refund in cash or vouchers? Oh and considering flights are this cheap can I add Plus bundle at booking time or does that nullify the price beat request?

You need to use the chat function to make the booking; they will process it at the cheaper price.

You would have to make the booking via the online chat. I believe you can use a voucher to pay for some (or all) of the booking but I don't think Jetstar will refund (in cash or more vouchers) any residual value on the voucher.

Oh book the flights via online chat.

I was thinking I had to first book flights then request price beat. I heaps of JQ gift vouchers I would like to use before they expire.

No you get on online chat.
They confirm the fare on the other airline.
Then they book a fare at the discounted price - you provide name etc, then you get a link to pay for it

Good to know even though I'm unlikely to use it on the short term.

Oh well, I generally use JQ PBG for last minute weekend getaway bookings <72hrs prior, as I find Tiger tend to ramp up prices on my routes slower than JQ last minute. Oh well, just got to plan a week in advance now.

Tried doing one of these today.

JQ would honour the $10 difference + 10% of $45 but cannot add Plus Bundle to earn QFF points although can add baggage and select seats for a fee. If I book the flight myself with Plus Bundle it is $95 but there's a VA flight af the same time for $75.

P.S. When did Plus Bundle go up to $40?

Are these Club Jetstar fares included in the price beat? That is, if the JQ fare is $99, the Club JQ fare is $89 and the competitor is $94, is it still eligible for a price beat?

Sounds right, it has never been possible to add a Plus Bundle to a JQ price beat fare.

Regarding the Plus Bundle price, I have no idea - I stopped flying JQ a while ago. ;)

I'd just book VA if I were you.

Easy said but I'm sitting on ~$650 worth of JQ gift cards. ;)

I have found a few flights that could be of use. Book the wife and daughter on VA and book myself on JQ without the Plus Bundle. I'm guessing I can pay for seat selection for $5 without extra fees?

Yes, that won't be a problem. You can add most extras at the usual cost. The price beat bookings are treated exactly like regular Starter fares.
