I am off in March to Bali on JQ via Syd.

However the first flight to SYD from MEL is a JQ code share on QF metal.

So my question is (and I note that son this forum have taken this route of late)....do you check in at the JQ or QF desk in MEL?

I am on StarClass Promo seats ...but am also a QC member....which adds to the complexity as some say that the Promo fare does not get the priorty benefits on the MEL - SYD leg...including I presume check in (though I could ).

Adding complexity.....as the first leg is domestic I assume I check in at the domestic terminal.....and also some say that the Starclass Promo does not get youa business QF seat or queue???)

My main concern is wanting the priority check in...

If it is via the QF desk...then asa QC member I can uise that queue...but if it is the JQ desk....do I miss out?

Is theira a Starclass Domestic JQ check in for connecting flights?

My main issue is wanting the priority check in

Check in with QF (it is always with the operating airline).

Assuming the QF flight number is not under 400 it will leave from domestic terminal at MEL.

From "Ask JetStar", I get the following (answer number 164):
Multiple sectors can only be booked as connecting flights in the same booking if listed as a connecting fare.

Jetstar offers connecting fares on a number of connecting flight markets as part of the improved functionality of our booking system.

This provides you with an easier way to book two separate flight segments in the same booking. However, unless otherwise advised, you're still responsible for making your next flight and re-checking in your baggage.

...

Unless otherwise advised, passengers must always check-in between flights.

If you’re travelling on a Jetstar Domestic Australian flight, you can check-in for your flight at Jetstar check-in counters or, if you only have hand luggage (no checked baggage) you can also check in at selected Qantas Clubs only. Check-in is not available at the gate lounges.

Check-in for international flights is not available at the Qantas Club.
So, barring any further information, I would suggest checking in with Qantas in SYD for you domestic segment (using the QC line if you have baggage and at the QP if not).

Once you get to MEL, look for the StarClass JQ Check-in queue and go from there.

Thanks for that...I thought that was the case....

My flight is from the Domestic Terminal....though with my second flight being international I would not mind if it was International.

Interestingly I know from looking at my booking that my flight has been changed from 3pm to 2;30pm.....though JetStar have not yet advised me of this.

The SYD-DPS flight has also been made earlier....(so hence the change)...which suits me.

I little more research has cast a small doubt on this.

I am not sure of this however, as there is no time specified in relation to MEL for "Jetstar (JQ) Domestic (flight numbers JQ6000-6999) to:" "Jetstar (JQ) International". Nor is there any time specification for "Jetstar (JQ) International to:" "Jetstar (JQ) Domestic (flight numbers JQ6000-6999)" at MEL. Only timers for SYD are specified.

Interestingly, MEL times are specified for JQ<->JQI.

I have the feeling this may be in error and if you have checked luggage, the best thing is to ask when checking in.

Thanks Serfty...Yes that is correct that my bags will automatically forwarded rather than having to check them ina second time.

I had that confirmed just after I originally made the booking (by calling them(...and is a "perk" of having a connecting flight on GF rather than JQ metal.

I agree, and when I havea connecting flight...I have always done this in the past (including on other airlines).

I will also be seeking boarding passes for the next flight as this "confirms" my 5 seats... in advance of others who would be checking in in Sydney later.

I assumes that for JetStar Starclass this will be particularly advisable as I understand that with their system that the seat I have nominated is a seating preference rather than seat confirmation.

thanks for the link to the table... I think but do not know ...that the times are just relating to the connecting flight time....and that the Bagge Transfer is simply the last column...ie...is provided or not.

A dom->int connection at MEL is much easier than at SYD.

Please advise how you go with this as I do not think JQI systems are sophisticated enough to allow the issue of BP's in another Airport. (note that the BP's are not put through the reader when you board, the small stub is your BP and is torn off.) Alos, JQI check-in does not open until "3 hours before" the flight's scheduled departure time.

The advise from the web site is "... Unless otherwise advised, passengers must always check-in between flights."

As for seating preselection goes; you will generally get the seat you selected if you check in on time.

Thanks.....my comment in this case was because I am flying to SYD..where DOM and INT are seperate......so hence if I fly International from MEL to SYD I will already be in the International area there....whereas if I fly DOM to SYD I will have to catch the connecting bus (which I did last July when I flew an Award redemption with QF with MEL-SYD on QF domestic & SYD- BKK on BA).....so while neither are a great hassle...it would be probably less hassle if all was international as I would avoid the bus trip.

Fortunately the connecting bus is only a short walk......but it will consume time (last time I had to wait about 15 minutes)...time that I could use better in the QC;)

:) well that is why I used the word seeking....as I did not know whether it was possible.

I have flown JetStar Domestic (and Tiger & Air Asia)...and so am familar with the "docket" tickets.

However as QF will be effectively checking in my bags...would they not need to issue me a ticket for that flight...as I would imagine that unaccompanied bags would be a security risk??

or is it that my bags are checked in...and that I will then need to front up at the JetStar International counter in Sydney to check myself in?

Thanks....

You won't see your bags until DPS; I do believe you will still need to check-in at MEL.

Class you will have a "Dedicated Counter".

In fact there is no easier airport in Australia than MEL for making a DOM<-->INT transfer. If I have to connect, I will always look a MEL option.

... plus a dom->dom or int->int connection in SYD to up the SC earning ;)

Nahh, SC's don't interest me any more. The only reason to consider using SYD is for LAX departures. SYD is the lesser of two evils with the current TBI situation. May change when TBI upgrade is finished. Otherwise its direct to/from BNE or transit in MEL for me.

I did this journey last week... MEL/SYD JQ (QF Codeshare) the SYD/DPS on JQ.... Heres the low down....
***********
Check-in at QF Business Class or QC Check-in. Jetstar check-in did not want to process the check-in... said they werent Qantas (Doh!!)
Bags through checked to Denpassar but no priority
Seat allocation should be done for both legs at Melbourne check-in
Had initial problems with QC in Melbourne and had to show QC Card but should have been entitled to entry anyway
No problems with transfer in Sydney - simple
No problems with QC in Sydney

:D

Thanks Jettsetter....

It is good to know that I can get all my tickets for both flights in MEL. Thanks for the confirmation.:)

I look forward to hear what SC and points are posted for both flights.
