JQ Fleet renewal

I’ve come to tolerate Jetstar for short domestic flights (NTL-BNE), providing I book a Max bundle - QF points, flex SC, $10 credit (which pays most of a $11 G&T) and I can get a seat in Row 1 so I don’t have to look at the bogans ;)

Can't judge an airline on a single delay...

That's right, but BITRE figures show domestically, JQ has suboptimal overall puctuality, while internationally as MEL_Traveller keeps reminding us, there is frequent late running and cancellations because the JQ timetables and tuirnarounds can be tight, and there's no spare aircraft anywhere if one B788 fails unexpectedly.

Same, but only for Syd-Mel-Bne triangle. Easy enough to rebook me into the next flight which is in an hour instead of just before the Second Coming.

JQ has accepted its first A321neo delivery (VH-OFE) and it is currently in Mumbai having completed the first leg of its journey being ferried to Australia (flown as JQ8992). It will continue on to Perth and is expected to arrive late this evening.

It's not the first A321neo in the group however, GK took delivery of JA26LR in early June and operated its first revenue flight for Jetstar Japan on the 1st of July.

Doubt I'll be back in time to make it on the inaugural flight...

I prefer JQ over QF these days. More comfortable seats and the choice to actually eat/drink something I want.

I wonder if the Jetstar 787's Will transfer to Qantas in conjunction with the A321 arrivals?
I heard this exact statement (or rumour) from the wife of a QF pilot, back when JQ first placed the 787 order.

Could be much like how the A332s were transferred from JQ over to QF.

Some of the longer routes like HNL, Japan etc need the range of the 787 and currently a lot of the shorter routes like DPS are going out 100% full daily, obviously that won’t last forever.

Not sure if DPS is slot constrained? Wouldn’t be surprised if it is in the evening peak

The XLRs will be able to do CNS-NRT-KIX. HNL was rumoured to be dropped pre covid.

So they either move to being an all A320/321 operator or the 787s find some new routes. Given SYD-ICN has been announced I reckon the latter is the more likely.

Looks like one A321N red eye DPS flight next month. I assume come November/December they might make a permanent addition?

The sooner they get the A321Ns the better, the 787 schedule is in tatters

They’ve added additional services on MEL-DPS over the next few days, but operating them with the A320. The A321neo makes an appearance on Thursday.

And speaking of the 787 schedule, JQ37 SYD-DPS has been cancelled 5 out of 7 days in the last week.

Indeed - MEL isn’t doing much better either. But realistically they need two A320s for every 787 scheduled, not sure if the A320 would be payload restricted from syd / Mel?
Thousands are stranded at the moment, not good.
