JQ Fleet renewal

They must be two 787s down.

This isn’t new either, one seems to have engineering problems on a monthly basis, they certainly don’t keep one as a spare that’s for sure.

I recall A320 Sharklets can do East Coast to Bali.

Ouch that’s a whole lot of bad luck coming to bite. Not that the 787 fleet has been reliable regardless. I stopped flying those tag wide body domestic flights the minute they changed from A330s to the 787. Reliability went out the window almost immediately.

IF JQ drops the 787's (with their so-called J class) from the international routes, I will NEVER fly JQ again - EVER!
The only reason I choose to fly JQ is the MEL-HKT-MEL route because its a direct flight and the offer something other than cattle (prod) class...
I was forced to fly JQ Y MEL-SYD to connect to SYD-HKT last month - NEVER EVER AGAIN will I fly JQ Y.

What the difference between "business" class on a B787 vs A330? (I know that they are both recliner seats and might be better termed premium economy.)

I've only ever flown JQ business class on the 787. You're right jpp42 - its in essence the same as premium-Y on most full service airlines In fact the J seats on the JQ 787-8 are pretty much identical to domestic J class on QF domestic (eg 737).

As far as I'm aware (seat guru), JQ does not have 'business class' on their domestic fleet aircraft (and apart from JQ's attitude towards its customers, another reason why I will not fly JQ domestically!)

Seating configuration:
2-3-2 on JQ B787
1-2-1 on QF A330

JQ doesn't operate A330.
But they used to, before the 787, right? I think I misunderstood something above, but I was asking about the difference between business class in the former A330 and current B787, for long haul international.

The JQ A330 used the old QF CityFlyer config, which was then upholstered in leather both cabins. Newer Aircraft carried IFE and a new economy seat which was to be in preparation for a QF conversion soon after.

The A330 JQ was very reliable and many of us used it on the tag flights. I have barely flown JQi since. However I do prefer the A330 vs 787 overall but that’s just a personal choice.

It was better when JQ called the cabin StarClass.

But I think they shifted to match the similar seats in ScootBiz. Air Asia X has angled lie flats in its Premium Class.

Having flown all three, AAX for the seat, JQi for the food and service.

And often Scoot for the price. Interesting that JQ rebranded it from "Star Class" to "Business" whilst scoot it's no longer called "ScootBiz" but instead "ScootPlus" which is a fair, accurate description.

First flight on a JQ neo today up to MCY, legroom certainly an improvement, big lockers, nice to have a USB and seat pocket. Seats are pretty hard however, don’t know if I’d want to do anymore than 4 hours

With more NEOs entering service, I wonder if there will come a point where JQ transitions some of their 787s to QF mainline or would they open more routes?

Was an article about that they would operate the 788s at Jetstar for another 10 years before leaving the fleet. That sounds about right as they are entering D checks about now, so will now run them to the next D check point in which they will likely be scrapped, end of this decade. Can’t see anyone conducting a second D check on a 788.

I guess the question is, what replaces the 788s. Perhaps the 789, 350, or nothing at all. I doubt they will go for more 788s. They need something for the 2030-2050 era, Dreamliner will certainly be around until then. 789 with crew rest would be wise, and a configuration that would easily allow them to convert them to QF birds if the market dictates, in an easier fashion vs todays fleet.
