That must do good to the Cairns economy.

The Cairns economy is in the toilet and has been for a while, the move by JQ is to grab what is there from the VFR traffic who are price sensitive. Until the economy improves in Cairns there is no upside for mainline business, compare it with Townsville just down the road and you will see what I mean.

TSV's Lavarack Bks does wonders for QF!

Tell me about it :!:

Anyone want to buy a really nice house in Cairns :?: For you, such a deal. :D

GF did you preallocate your seat at the time of booking or did you wait until you got to the airport?
Babe, this was an example of not letting a 2nd party handle (training) bookings from one who personally makes his own long-term corporate way. I was initially given the dead-dog dirt cheap fare without baggage (for a 5 day trip) and thus could not provide my QF FF No. for OLCI etc. Suffice to say I was No.110 in line for baggage carousel and No. 150 in cab line, from one who normally gets row 4 on QF.

John, as in previous reply I was specifying Daylight Saving Time - noon now in non-DST.
Done one and only Deathstar BNE-CNS with poor rear seat allocation (no rear door use) therefore never again.

Umm daylight savings time only changes by 1 hour. So daylight savings time can not explain a difference between noon and 2 pm
Also bear in mind that daylight time moves forward, so 2pm in bne is 3 pm in other eastern states and 2:30pm in South Oz. So actually a 2pm open would be one hour earlier than in SYD and MEL. If there was any difference due to daylight time

There's no reason you can't get row 4 or thereabouts - you've just gotta ring 'em up and ask (ph 131 538). I think that the dead-dog cheap fare (JQ lite) has a surcharge of three bucks or so for the 'privilege' of reserving a seat but even paying that is surely better than dealing with row 26 or worse.

Don't know whether providing your QF FF no for JQ OLCI would help though. AFAIK you must have your JQ booking ref that will help you OLCI where you can view the seat map before selecting your seat. If you use the JQ kiosks at the airport they just spit out a boarding pass with whatever seat the system wants to give you.

You can survive the JQ experience - it's just like self serve at the petrol bowser vs full driveway service.

You can do it Rock!

medhead,

There you go bringing logic into what was until then a perfectly illogical story :!: Shame on you :D

In this case, 'viable' means that if he has to fly JQ there then you might as well go jump in the lake.
And by the way I am not the only one who refuses to fly JQ and the list is getting longer judging by some of the responses on AFF.

The really annoying thing is the thousands of options QF show that involve JQ flights. I'm trying to book ADL-SIN return for next year. As a straight return the only all QF option gets me landing in SYD at 1540 for QF5. But they offer an option with a JQ flight that leaves ADL at 8am-ish. A much better option is QF 82 ADL-SYD but I can only get that by switching to a multicity booking, which has other disadvantages like phone assist fees! If I wanted to fly JQ I'd ask them for flight options.

That part is really annoying. I wish QF would have a toggle button if you wanted JQ flights shown in your proposed itinerary.

Why would multi-city bookings involve phone assist fees? You should be able to do a mutli-city booking online without any hassle although QF82 may not show up in the ADL-SYD options.

Have you tried breaking down the multi-city itinerary to ADL-SYD and then SYD-SIN instead of ADL-SIN?

Oops. I meant if you have to change anything. Of course, it can be booked on line ok. That's the break down I'm using to see availability on QF82, which would a be great option because it avoids the terminal transfer in SYD.

The other option I'd like to price is connecting with starclass in MEL. But another limitation of the QF booking engine, no mixed class bookings.

Even if a search could weed out flights with a JQ prefix, the trouble is that it could still show (I won't say a Qantas flight) a flight with a QF flight number but operated by JQ, dare I say a codeshare flight.

Also with the pricing structure of an ADL/SIN itinerary same day, if you asked for the flights separately because that was the only way of getting QF82 ADL/SYD then QF5 SYD/SIN would that still price a "through fare" or would it charge you sector fares, despite being on the same day?

I still find that people get "caught out" by not realising they are booking Jetstar when they book via the QF website. They may have had a QF operated flight outbound and even though the return flight on their itinerary may be JQxx_ they'll say "but I made the booking through Qantas".

As a guess the fare structure would possibly be cheaper to get the best QF fare ADL/MEL/ADL then do a separate Star Class directly thru JQ. When you checkin at ADL they can still through check your bags through to SIN on JQ as it's an intl flight number.

Sometimes adding on extra sectors does not increase the airfare but actually may make it cheaper as some sectors like BNE-SIN and vv are usually more expensive.

Getting off-topic here but dare I say that my recent booking from QF Singapore website of SIN-MEL-BNE//SYD-MEL-PER-SIN was cheaper than a simple SIN-BNE return or a simple open jaw SIN-BNE//SYD-SIN.

I won't go further OT other than to say thanks for the feedback. Certainly given me a few options to check.
I would like to book a return from SIN to save some cash. But SWMBO can't see the point. In fact, she said 'but then you would have to fly back to SIN'. I stopped myself from replying that was the whole point, just. Anyway, she must be obeyed.

Without getting into pedantics, when my BNE-CNS/TSV flight departs 2pm (hasn't changed schedule for many years) and I see the QP bar sign advising 2pm opening in DST, I am already boarded and gone.
There's been previous discussions on 1 or 2pm variations on QLD QP bar openings if you want to check. Cheers

As I said, it didn't help in this "sole" instance where I got zero JQ/QF recognition status, despite being SG.

It's a pain where those of us who make their own bookings and benefit thru AFF/FT experience etc, can do nothing due other inexperienced TA's.
