JQ expands CNS Domestic from 2011

Wonder what it means for QF services? As we know an "injection" of Jetstar capacity, does not necessarily mean an injection of overall capacity.

Melbourne-Cairns and Sydney-Cairns services will increase from twice daily to three times daily on April 4, 2011.
Hopefully not at the expense of QF mainline MEL/SYD CNS flights.

Probably not from SYD, but you never know from MEL. Look DRW, QF continue to fly from every other mainland capital and even added CBR-DRW service. But MEL-DRW is solely the domain of JQ.

That's because Melbourne loves
jetstar ;)

Well, I do not think/hope they will replace the remaining daily QF 763 with a JQ 320, this would be anything but an increase in capacity or service.

If you look at the timing of the new JQ service I think it fits in nicely between the QF rotation and the late JQ rotation:

JQ946 MEL 11.35 – CNS 15.00 Daily NEW
JQ949 CNS 15.30 – MEL 18.55 Daily NEW

However, we might see an adjustment in equipment for the QF flight, to a 73H maybe? I do not think they will drop this completely, they also have codeshares on this route (at least CZ flight number).

Pity QF wouldn't add another BNE-CNS flight in the long drought between 2pm and 7.55pm.
Worse still is that the BNE QP bar doesn't open until 2pm DST.:evil:

While this was certainly the case months ago, I thought all QP's were now back to midday openings?

You need to make WP and go into the J lounge then :!:  :D
I made SG almost solely flying BNE - NQ routes and probably don't have the stamina to continue above and beyond to WP:cool:

I was referring to Daylight Saving Time and somehow, despite not taking part in QLD DST, the temperence BNE QP moves its bar times to coincide with other States:confused::confused:

It should be open before 5AM for the poor folks that have to take that OMG departure to SYD and MEL! From memory not even the Barista is in operation.

Oz Int QP's have more appropriate times in my experience (self serve in BNE) - or has that changed?
I quite liked and favoured the old BNE Int QP for Govt points acquittal/redemption when the only BNE-CNS flights I could get was via BNE Int!!

Self serve, all you can drink, from open to close ....

One would certainly hope that none of the current QF services are replaced with JQ services otherwise CNS will not longer be a viable destination.

Are you sure? I though Qantas Lounge bar opening times have come back to noon. Need to check again on Friday when I get to the airport early.

Depends on how you determine the word viable.

Viable now maybe for a family living in MEL if JQ can offer cheaper airfares for them to CNS than currently offered by QF.

Not viable maybe if someone such as a WP would rather pay more to travel on QF, accrue ff points & earn SC.

The decision makers generally look at whether they think JQ operating the service is a more cost effective model & if it is then for CNS it's bye bye QF. Look what happened to Coolangatta.

Sounds like JQ are trying to create a new FNQ hub similar to DRW.

John, as in previous reply I was specifying Daylight Saving Time - noon now in non-DST.
Done one and only Deathstar BNE-CNS with poor rear seat allocation (no rear door use) therefore never again.
