If they do cull membership, there's gonna be a few bruised egos around

It is one of the most exclusive clubs in the land. Its doors are hidden from view and its members, who gain entry by invitation only, number politicians, corporate chieftains and celebrities.

[..]

''The Chairman's Lounge is all about networking, ego stroking and recognition,'' says a member, who recently took a call from a Qantas staffer politely inquiring about the extent of his recent travel. ''But they are now looking to cull the membership … because it's too expensive.''

I think it's a very good idea. Certainly, examining who's spending with, or flying with, Qantas, will weed out the few that aren't worth it, and depending on how the Federal Government chooses to spend their travel budget, maybe a whole lot more will soon go too.

If they're not going to spend the appropriate amount, then they're just freeloaders!

There are a fair few in there simply because of who they are, not because they're in control of large corporate/government spends.

Sports stars and B-list celebrities might be handed out invites when times are great and QF can spend up big on keep the "right people" happy, but in tough times, it's much better to focus on the those who are "right" for helping QF's bottom line in much more direct sense.

best thing that could happen is to remove CL from qantas - I have always had trouble understandingthat my taxes pay for most CL members salaries yet although my travel exceeds 90K per year, income generated mainly to QF, I have never been even through the door.

So, to sum up, I work long hours, I pay taxes both income and company ++, my taxes go toward Polly travel in J yet my company policy is Y, then, on top of that, these freeloaders (I am not refering to CL businessmen) get CL memberships by default of their position...

CL - begone!

Any club that won't have me as a member isn't worth being a member of.
