Hi All,

I've got two separate bookings that I want to try join so I can interline luggage and have a smooth transfer in Sydney. The two bookings are a Revenue QF MEL>SYD booking and a SYD>DXB award flight on EK. Looking for some feedback on whether this is possible or not.

I'm travelling with a 1 year old so the ideal scenario is to use the QF domestic transfer to the international terminal if at all possible.

I called QF this morning for another matter and asked the agent at the end of the call whether it's possible. He told me that it couldn't be done.

Is it a hard no, or a matter of HUACA?

You'll have to do it at the airport. Reservations can put a 'ghost sector' in the booking for information purposes, but this wouldn't be seen by checkin staff anyway.

@yld200 you cannot combine a QF and EK bookings however all is not lost it is standard policy for QF to interline luggage when connecting to EK, it is part of their partnership agreement. At check in MEL your luggage should be checked through to your final location.

Also remember that while QF will probably interline your bags (check in at the international connecting flights positions at MEL T1 domestic) that you still need to transfer to SYD T1 international via the bus, or train or whatever, and go through all the usual procedures there, though much easier if you do not have to schlep bags of course along with a one year old. Enjoy your flights.

Indeed QF to EK is OK
as https://www.qantas.com/agencyconnec...on/interline-and-through-checked-baggage.html

In addition on that QF page
"^ Exemptions apply for customers travelling on a oneworld separate PNRs when using a combination of award travel and revenue travel.
But I have never been sure if "award travel" has to be a QF points awards or an any award on a partner OW airline. As EK is not oneworld that exemption may not apply

Points travel is either, So QF point to OW cash, or QF cash to OW points.

EK is an exemption to the points rule, due to being all EK flights no matter the purchase method can be added in at check-in (and JQ for that matter).

Thanks all for the information.

Glad we don't have to schlep our bags but disappointing we don't get the QF shuttle.

I don't think anyone gets the QF shuttle currently ... T-Bus it is during the day and own devices at night. It departs T1/T2 every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour.

I didn't realise that was the case. Thanks for sharing the link, although the map on that link still shows the QF domestic transfer shuttle next to Gate 15 but doesn't mention it as an option - strange.

All MEL>SYD flights arrive at XX:25 and XX:55 so we'll make a call on what option we taken once we de-board and get to the arrivals hall.
