The 40,000 points offer is available for Qantas Frequent Flyer members upon purchase of a new Australian Qantas Club individual membership at the rates published on this webpage.

Individual membership at full prices! I'm guessing corporate memberships don't even count :(

its a pretty cheap way to get 40,000 points. certainly cheaper than the 20,000 point max top up points.

Being SG, would QP membership be put on ice until such a time that I drop below SG? and at what point (2-3 years) could you get refunded for unused membership?

You never get refunded, it stays on hold for ever unless the scheme is enhanced

Tell me about it. Guess who was the silly one who paid for a 2 year renewal 6 months before qualifying to Platinum?

Thats a bit steep and unfair. What happens if you NEVER end up using it either because you retain SG or higher or you choose to jump ship and not fly QF/OW?

there will eventually come a time( LTG or death) when it becomes of no use and im not convinced its legal for Qantas to retain payment for a service that it has not provided.... just my 2p.

You could always take it out, use the points then demand a refund because you are so distraught over being turned away from the Galleries lounges in T5??? ;) Even people like awilcockson could probably try it on that this is the straw that broke the camel's back and they want their money back NOW!!! :)

If this was available for corporate applications i could perhaps be interested, pity it would still be slightly early, i was able to take out a pro rata'd corporate membership from mid March to the end of our corporate year (end of August) and it only cost $85 and then i claimed that back on tax...

Still i could probably get this offer for about $100 after tax which would be better than the OnePath offer... Still not sure if i would use it, but anyway if anyone can get a corporate rate renewal qualified for it be good to know...

I took out a 4 year one 18months before eventually becoming SG, they put it on the end should status disappear.

And I suspect you might be on the path to LTG as well...

I'm doing my best :)

If/when I do hit LTG, I will certainly be contacting QF to ask for a refund for my 18 months of unused (and never to be used) QP membership.

I know a couple of people who had QP then made Gold and then WP, then cracked LTG so will never need it again. And no they don't refund it at all from what I was told. I am sure there is a clause in the agreement on no refunds, or you could wait til an "enhancement" and demand it back then?

Personally I have 12 months QP on ice and the way it is going I will never use it again as I'll be LTG in around 3 years.

Good luck with that, there is no provision for a refund in the terms and conditions unless they ditch all the Qantas clubs

5.8 Except as specified in these Terms and Conditions, membership is non-refundable and not transferable.

Interesting, I'm sure I'd heard of people getting a refund in the past. Oh well, live and learn.

There is actually. See clause 4.4. If they amend the T&C or club rules in a way that deprives the member substantially of the intended use of the membership then a prorata refund is available for the remaining period. (also if you home lounge is closed as someone mentioned - but not all QCs)

I think someone got refunded over the removal of priority check in, IIRC.

Didn't someone already demand a refund of their QP membership over the T5 fiasco (or however you want to describe it) and get it???

Even if you took it out several years ago i wonder if you could ring up and say I've had enough of Qantas over this and demand a refund???

Tried to get a refund, was not successful was my recollection!

My memory of the issue is hazy. But I'm sure someone said they were refunded. Might do a search when I get on a computer if I can be bothered.

But really 4.4 is pretty wide open as it comes down to the member's intended use something that is hard for anyone but the member to know.
