Matched to BD*G. All it took was an email. :)

*G status is valid for a year from today, here's hoping dc will have turned into M+M by then. They also soft land you to *S should you not make Gold within your 'year.'

Ditto! One easy email and a scan of my WP card.

The only interesting thing is that my membership number is now: 188**** which is changed from 088****. QF009 did your number have a 1 added to the front?

Perhaps an email may be useful here....

Now I just need to update my details under my handle.

Yep the 1st digit of your membership number changes each time your status updates. I went from 0 to 3 when I got blue plus (don't ask me how!), and finally to a 1 when I got matched to *G.

Also holding out for future SEN-hood, sr81? :p

On one hand DC is a great program. Miles are easy to earn but moderately difficult to burn. Status is comped and easily done.

BUT some things they suck at. They have charged me 4 times for my redemption flight I booked a week ago. This will now involve a long and drawn out phone call to BMI to try and work this out.

Yes, I would love a Senator card. Who wouldn't?

It's an easy enough process to get the miles re-credited, yes even with Pune. Happened to me twice and on both occasions the miles were back in my account within 15 minutes of ending the call.

And when you say 'difficult to burn' I'd assume you mean dealing with Pune rather than the actual burn rate itself? ;) Looking back at my dealings with Pune, the incompetence is actually comical in retrospect - you couldn't even make it up!

If all else fails, there's always Joanna to fall back on though I'd only do that as an absolute last resort. Thankfully none of that so far apart from routine things like retro claims and the status match.

ahhh, sorry for the ambiguity, BMI charged my credit card. This is a much more concerning turn of events.

Anyway, good to hear that you had an easier time of it. Gives this newly gold member hope!

Then I'd suggest you stay away from Pune. :p

In fact, call the refunds line: +441332 854534; these guys are based in the UK! I call them to expedite my cash refunds whenever I cancel my awards and they're rather efficient.

QF009, your help and suggestions are beyond the call and I am very grateful. After a delightful 5 minutes with Lynne, it turned out they had charged my card twice because they issued the tickets twice! Very glad this was caught as duplicate bookings can get nasty.

Lynne commented that it was raining and cold in the UK and that I should bugger off to for a beer rather than calling about flights - I said that was an excellent suggestion so off I go!

I quit elike the referral thing... :) Now to find 2 people to refer.....

Q: does the free post thingy for the referral only work within the UK? I s'pose I'd still need to buy my own stamp posting this from Oz?

EDIT: On 2nd thought, I might wait till I'm in LHR on the 4th of Dec...

FlyerTalk Forums - View Single Post - Please report your successful redemptions using Diamond Club miles (2008)

2 business class on same booking

NRT - SIN (SQ Bus)
SIN - LHR (SQ Bus)
LHR - FRU (BD Bus)

(all overnight transit stops only)

Zone 8 - Zone 8, 11,250 miles per person part cash+miles+tax (£280 each)
Whoa!

I had to look up Bishkek on a map. It's in central Asia, flown by BD - prolly an ex-BMED route.

Anyway, this is nothing in comparison but I'd just booked Z9-9 and back (separate bookings of course) for 2 friends for a trip in Jan/Feb 09. Reasonably smooth process this time.

Had the 'systems frozen' thing on the first call. Rang back immediately. Apart from having to spell out the airport codes, all was well - availability matched ANA tool exactly, taxes loaded in seconds. Now I'm just waiting for everything to be ticketed.

Outbound:
MEL-WLG NZ C (stop)
WLG-AKL NZ Y
AKL-RAR NZ Y

7500 miles plus GBP50 cash plus GBP91 tax per person.

Inbound:
RAR-AKL NZ Y
AKL-CHC NZ Y (stop)
CHC-MEL NZ C

Ditto with the above.

Interestingly it is heaps easier to get seats in C than it is in whY with NZ on the TT and Pacific routes. Am struggling with burning off my 20k UA miles for that reason - seems they only drip feed whY availability closer to the day which doesnt help me as the only time I can do my South Pacific holiday is in September. I've resigned to just going to NZ over a weekend in April and back. :(

For those still "thinking" of a BD Gold comp, apparently it's best to do it by Feb as they'll be tightening up comps next month.

From another forum I post in. RAPC has extremely reliable insider info on all things BD DC:

Nothing to do with LH either apparently, just a recognition that only a small percentage of the overall comped business actually generate enough revenue to BD to justify the widespread comps.

So if you are thinking about getting a status match based upon your Tufty Club Badge and an old student railcard, then Feb is your month...

I guess there's no real surprise there.... I assume also it's for redemptions made after that date, rather than travel after that date.

A change to the cost of all F award flights: x2.5; LH-F to carry a 10k surcharge e/w - FlyerTalk Forums

I don' t think many people were redeeming for LH F, since they stopped C&M a while ago.

Many people do also redeem for full miles to offset the cash component of the award, as the YQ can be rather hefty (unless redeeming on OZ and NZ). The full miles option is still a good value option relative to competing programs. And LH F is much more readily available on certain routes, Asia-Europe and Europe-South America come to mind.

Yes it's for redemptions made after May 1st (travel dates don't matter).

The BMI program is still a good deal even with F being now more expensive.

At x1.5 points you can still get very good deals with quality carriers. The best is that you only pay for the class of travel on your longest leg. Eg. KOA-LAX in Y then LAX-CLT-RDU in F for 7,500 points + cash.

On another point - Did anyone get the points from that survey they sent around about a month ago?

Nope, I never received any.

I agree, it's still the best FFP out there. But this might also be the beginning of the end... I wonder how the change affects those redemptions with F segments but charged as a lower category by virtue of "longest segment." As always it'd be interesting to see how this plays out in ICC-land.

Also, they're apparently having a "big backlog" in the ticketing department right now (i wonder why ;)), so do bear that in mind when booking something with 24hr ticketing deadlines, eg SQ, LX and the like and make sure you bring this to their attention (repeatedly if you need to).
