I have two JL sectors in a OW Award booking and need advice on selecting J seats.

One flight is 787-8 with the old "shell neo" configuration.

The other is a 767 with the "Sky Suite".

TIA.

Sky suite - take one of the A or K window seats hard up against the window (like rows 2, 4 or 6): https://www.jal.co.jp/en/aircraft/conf/763.html (end of page for the relevant seat map)

For the 787-9 row 2, 3 or 8 centre seats. Row 2 and 8 are mid cabin, away from galley and WC, no one to climb over (or have climb over you). Row 3 is against the galley behind, but I find these seats generally ok.

Excellent thanks.

I probably should have mentioned its 3 pax, but I can work with what you've outlined.

Appreciate the help. Thanks.

Then probably for the 789 you want something like row 3 ADG (or 5ADG). Those seats will give you a sort of 'three' block. For the 767 you can go for window+aisle in row 2 or 3 plus the adjoining centre seat.

I had 4K on a 767 10 days ago and while it is a pretty uncomfortable seat by J standards (very narrow), it is reasonably private and keeps you away from aisle traffic. For 3 pax I'd pick seats that have this feature.

Thanks both.

I'm aware of the seats being narrow. I would have preferred CX for my YVR-SIN trip, but despite 3x J award seats showing on both QF and BAEC, the QF agents couldn't see them. And before you ask, yes I searched YVR-SIN to avoid the MSC issue.

Sounds like you came across the phantom availability issue with CX awards. I generally double-check CX availability using the JAL website - this seems to only show seats that are actually available. And the JL site doesn't always show seats that appear to be available on the QF/BA sites. Good that you managed to find seats on JL though.

I wasn't aware of this issue. I might look via JL for the CX option. I think the 3x 5,000 point change penalty would be worth the better J experience.
