346/3 at stumps on day 1. So there could be a lot of tickets for sale, but maybe not huge bargains.
I dunno; as I posted a StarClass fare MEL-BKK is about $1K; lets have a notional average cost for JQ per StarClass seat on this route of $800.

So the raw cost of this promotion would be = <No. Of Available Seats> * ($800 - <Paid per Seat>). Since <paid per seat> = <No. Available Of Seats> = <runs>, in this case the cost is then:

<runs> * (800 - <runs>)

Let's postulate that Ponting declares at 700 (God Forbid!), the raw cost to JQ is 70,000.

Note however, for PAX, given the cost of the fare is (say) $1K, the PAX saving is $210,000; saving $300+ each.

Of course, I note that not many StarClass seats on my imminent booked flight appear to have been selected, perhaps the sales of these seats have been less than JQ were hoping and this is a promotional way to fill many of these.

so just which team does a Kiwi support during an Ashes series?

Australia of course. Normally back whoever is playing Australia - but sorry England in the Ashes are unbackable.

Have to say that I don't trust Jetstar anymore. I have had my flights conveniently delayed by Jetstar twice in 4 flights (one delayed by 3 hours, one by 4 hours). Time has seriously been wasted by Jetstar. I will definitely going back to Virgin Blue because at least I never have a late flight with them.

Just watched Sunrise this morning where Kochie read a viewer's email that Jetstar conveniently cancelled his flight on 25th December (Xmas) and rebook him on the next day, which he didn't want to of course. After some argument they offered to refund but then think about it the poor guy would have to pay like 3 times as much for another flight because it is Xmas time (his words).

Now I understand why people get p*ssed off by Jetstar. I think I would rather pay more for level of service and flight consistency. Initially I was thinking of flying to coughet with Jetstar for my honeymoon next year but now there is no way I will fly Jetstar on international flights no matter how cheap they are or all these "sports mad" sale. Just cannot trust them because at the end u have no idea whether they will cancel/delay the flight or not, not to mention that u will go "mad" waiting forever in the airport.

To be fair it isnt just jetstar that plays silly games, QF does too.

A QF flight was cancelled due to combination of poor weather and then when it cleared crew out of hours. Could have stayed overnight at the transit point I was stuck at, and flown next day except need to get back home. So offered refund of $18 for the flight not taken (which makes the flights taken poor value - wouldn't have bought at that price), or use the unused coupons later (only if availability exists in the original booking class - ie requires special sale in order to use). Have to pay my own way to the transit airport in order to use those coupons :(

I would have thought the fact saved QF the cost of a night of accommodation would have counted for something, but apparently not.

602 - what destinations represent good value at that fare?

I won't be able to use it myself unless I can get out of meetings :(

That's about AUD400 less then the normal MEL-BKK StarClass fare (120 SC's) and about AUD700 less then the SYD-HNL Starclass fare (140 SC's).

Hmmm. How do I get targetted JQ promotions by Monday 27 November? I was thinking of using FF points for SYD-BKK-SYD in July but after swallowing my pride if I can get a seat Tuesday morning SYD-BKK in July for $600 and 120 SC's I woud consider trying them out. Only need 30,000 FF points to return then, that is if Macquarie would still honour QF award tickets.

Did I hear someone say hypocrite? Just as well I am thick skinned!

Oh well!

I have enough SC's, flights booked and already paid, to reach Platinum by April. As my membership year ends 31 May 2006 I am now looking for ways to retain Platinum next membership year.

I have done some calculations to see how much it would cost, if I got the cricket promotional fares from Jetstar, for a girlfriend and myself to fly SYD - SGN (hochiminh, VN) - SYD. It did not look that attractive.

The normal Starclass (or pseudo business) fare for SYD - SGN in February is $1,198.45 (inclusive of taxes & charges) and SGN - SYD $1,179.19. Total return fare for 1 pax is $2,377.64.

The promo fare Starclass for SYD - SGN is $604 (Australia's first innings in the first Ash test), plus the return leg SGN - SYD will just be normal fare of $1,179.19. Total return fare for 1 pax is $1,783.19 - admittedly this is $600 cheaper than normal fare, but is it worth it? If I really want to go to VN then the answer may be yes, but if I just want to pick up a bargain then the answer will be no.

Also, I noticed that when Jetstar first advertised its international routes, the Starclass one-way fare between SYD and SGN was just over $800, now it has gone up by $200.

I have not yet received an email with the link; so am unable to book.

Has anyone received a 'Jetflash' email from JQ with the link; the sale is supposed to have started 10 minutes ago but I did not receve an email with the link.

I did receive the email below Last Week, so they have my email address.

Well, I was wrong! The $604 one way is for return leg as well. So, I phoned a few friends and no one could go to VN with me for one week in Feb 07. Rang the mother in law and she said yes please. Now, successfully booked 2 tickets for mum and me to VN for a total cost of just under $2,400 for both (or $1,200 pp inclusive of all taxes and charges).
