Jetstarisation of CNS Routes

The 700s are on the way out of course, and DJ are getting a new 800 every few weeks, one arrived earlier this week, I would not be surprised if they bump up the CNS flights to bigger aircraft, they have done well from OOL.

Ah yes.. thanks for the reminder re the 700s... a glimmer of hope for a 737-800 on the night time flight. One can only hope!

The more I think about this, the more this really pisses me off.

So.... Does this mean that if I suck it up, bend over and fly Deathstar on the 921 JQ replacement that I'm stuck landing at T2 and have to walk over to T3 to catch the transfer bus? Are you even allowed to catch the transfer bus if not arriving on QF?

So Red Roo - it's been 7 months since I asked the same question (see Post #1) at the Rockpool lunch..... (ie. give me an incentive to fly JQ).

The answer at the time from the big cheese was, to paraphrase, "Bad luck, get stuffed, we don't care about you".

7 months on - got a better answer yet??

I wonder if CNS airport have just put up the proposed rent for that alternate lounge next to the QP?

I think an option for QF would be to give WP's and above, seat selection, SC's and FF points on JQ flights.

I have flown JQ a few times.. Usually MEL-HBA when the options were Dash 8 or A320. I probably still would if those were my only 2 choices.

However..... Now VA offers me an alternative so JQ would be a 3rd choice behind QF J, VA J.

I would be incredibly annoyed if i lived in a city where QF was replacing services with Deathstar.

I feel your pain.

Normally on the Wednesday Qantas 0530 flight CNS/BNE once a month.
Twice this year the flight has been cancelled and offered the later QF flight which
am unable to take due to timings.

Qantas if this flight goes the same way as CNS/SYD, will be moving to Virgin.

Considering the flights they have canned.....this seems like a very ill-advised move.

What are they thinking throwing those flights to Jetstar? How does anyone connect to international on QF mainline now?

JQ dom do not even interline bags to their own JQ dom flights & they do not interline to QF flights whether dom or int so it's not a happy situation if you have checked luggage.

You can walk from T2 to T3 to catch the transfer bus to the intl terminal even if you have arrived on JQ however only with carry on luggage as you can't take checked luggage on this bus.

With checked luggage you would need to pick that up off the JQ flight at T2 then make your own way to T1 which would probably be easier on the train.

As a company policy, that restriction would be hard to enforce. I would have thought you could take any luggage on the bus that T3 security let you get through.

Probably the biggest reason I refuse to fly Jetstar.

Yes QF799 would be the next concern.....

Boss - I actually did the sensible thing and followed up my comments to QFF management with written, considered suggestions along the lines that you mentioned, suggestions that would be of minimal cost to QFF/JQ, wouldn't undermine the LCC model, but would provide us with a token incentive to still fly "Qantas Group".

Unfortunately, QFF have indicated they are not interested in paying this even lip service.

Which is a shame, because I believe there can be a win win solution.

Don't know where you would get the knockback, maybe once you arrive at the transfer desk by the person who scans your boarding pass.

T2 and T3 security will not let any non cabin size articles through unless you have an ASIC and good reason, there was a recent thread where someone had issues with gear for a meeting in the lounge.

There is always the TBus transfers T2-T1 which takes luggage....cost is about $5.00 IIRC....was a few years ago so it probably has gone up.

Train is same price and quicker of course so long as there is one due in a short space of time.

Hence why it would be hard (I probably mean difficult) to enforce. QF staff have to notice and be willing to confront the passenger, which is not a certainty if we consider the apparent lack of enforcement of premium boarding. ;) :D

There has also been reports of very large bags seen going through T3 security.

As someone who never pays for a domestic J seat I would also always choose Virgin over Jstar, especially having flown to the Gold coast one leg on each.

I agree.

I had wondered what this would mean for those who regularly fly up the front like yourself bossreggie. Interesting to see you would fly JQ again - I guess the flight wasn't that bad then (well, compared to a Dash 8 anyway).
"Via BNE" I expect would be the answer.
That's convenient

Or it would be, if QF actually had a decent international network that existed outside Sydney. And even that one in Sydney I wonder about...

As much as this is not a good thing, it seems those in charge think otherwise - including the Cairns airport manager and Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief.

They seem to be blinded by the extra seats and lure of getting more mums and dads up to (or in the case of international flights, down to) Cairns. Seems they are also confident that those extra seats will be filled easily (cf. if the business community all defect to VA, obviously there is going to be less seats filled on those JQ flights and a JQ revenue crisis).

Why isn't anyone from the Cairns business community saying anything about this (or all the media outlets decided not to publish anything which comes from them)? Or, even the mayor of Cairns or the local council? The latter's hide rests on the power of business and thus communications and connections. dfcatch can't be the only Cairns local who cares about this.

If the Noosa elites can't stop the cancer spreading - not a lot of hope for the others!
