1-Star class on Jetstar is it worth the paying for Starclass?
2-Is there anyway you can find out when JQ has next specials to Japan.
3-I want to go on June 3rd and Y class is full. why would that be?
4-How do I read seatcounter.com?

ike,

A quick look from the limited info you have provided.

1. This has been asked quite a few times and only you can answer that. It is still business class in quite good seats. (the old QF type)
2. No.
3. I looked out of SYD and there is availability in Y and J to KIX
4. I don't know.

I hope that helps a little.

1: My limited experience (1x SYD-KIX and 1x KIX-BNE) says yes, Starclass is worth paying the extra for. The seats are comfortable and the service is good. My only complaint with Starclass is the food.

2:No

3:Are you looking at CNS-KIX? There is no service on a Tuesday. There is CNS-NGO availability on Jun 3.
CNS-SYD is a daily service and there is availability on June 3.

4: I don't know.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I struggle to see what you are complaining about here.

Staff joking around whilst no passengers on board.
Have you watched any of the airline tv shows?

Of course there exists the possibility that this thread will turn into another Jetstar bashing exercise. Often from people who confess to not having flown with them but "I heard from a mate/relative/co-worker...".

I have flown with them in starclass and the experience (to coughet) was very positive. The SC's earned at business class rates sealed the deal for me.

In reply to q4 - How do I read Seatcounter.com - I presume you mean how do you read the results... Below is a sample result set (SYD-KIX for 3Jun08).

Seatcounter_exp.png

I have sorted the results by class to make it easier to see the different class buckets.

My understanding is that the number under each class bucket is minimum number of available seats in that fare bucket. So, with JQ17 showing all 4's, they have at least 4 seats available in every class offered. This number will only ever show up to 9 (single digit), so if there were 20 Y seats available, it would still only ever show 9 in the Y column. If the column is blank (such as G, X, Z or F for JQ), then that airline does not offer that class. I am not sure why JQ is listing 4 seats in P (normally a First class code - maybe JQ use it for a Business class product).

I would also add that I am happy to be proven wrong, but that is my understanding of how to read seatcounter results.

Regards,
Dot.

Dot,

I would also add that some backend systems (eg QFs) show a max of 9, whilst others (and I believe this includes JQ) show a max of 4.

Thus for the example above JQ has capacity in all fare buckets.

Individual airlines limit the number shown for Business Confidentiality reasons.

JQ will only show to a maximum of 4, Qantas 9 and AA 7.

The number indicates the minimum number of seats they are currently willing to sell/book under each booking code.

One might see on Qantas J4 D4 I4; this often means there are 4 seats left in business class and Qantas are willing to to sell any of these for what they can get (It does not mean there are 12 seats). If in this example, Qantas sell 2 seats in the D category, it would normally change to J2 D2 I2.

From the examples indicated, the JQ flight is "wide open"; while they only show a max of 4 seats, if there is availably in the cheaper classes (N, O, Q, S) it tend to means there's plenty of seats left. As more seats get sold the availability in these classes decreases and you would see something like Y4 B4 H4 L3 S3 V3 N2 O0 Q0.

1: Of course

2: Only way to do so is signing up to Jetmail.

3: Possibly due to it being blocked off for operational reasons (will have a look tomorrow and give you more info)

4: No idea!

Thanks aubs and serfty for setting me straight - I wasnt aware that JQ limited their results to a max of 4, you learn something new every day

Never posted before but obsessive reader.

Travelled SYD - KUL and return in Starclass with wife recently. Cabin not full (about 2/3 or 3/4 full). Excellent service. Seats ok (certainly much better than Y). Food fair. A/V good.:p

Good value overall esp if you want the SC's.

BTW Jetstar will check through baggage from BNE QF to connect to JQ international in SYD (although I would always check as may change).

You do not get expresspass on way back in for SYD customs/immigration like you do with many J fares.:(
