Now if they would just use a 332 with StarClass they may be onto something :)

Agreed, however I don't see it happening, as there are no routes that JQ fly out of PER that use the 332.

The start up time of 2/10 interests me as I plan to be in Sydney a week later so this could be a cheaper way of attaining some SC's that I need...

40 minute Perth turn-around.

Depart Perth 22.50pm Arrive Syd 6.05am
Good use of an aircraft that would otherwise be sitting at Syd Airport all night.

Assume this will probably mean the end of the even later at night QF red-eye. Given it was hardly ever full (at least when a 743)

JetSaver fares don't earn SC, so you'd need to book JetFlex.

Are you sure about that? Every time I've been on it, it's been packed to the brim (sample size of both A332 and B743s).

Don't think so. Redeye's on QF & JQ PER-MEL (operating at the moment 45 minutes apart) have both operated in parallel for sometime, don't see why same thing wouldn't happen for PER-SYD.

How many more red-eyes do you think people want as a service?

In saying that, though, I was on a PER-BNE redeye operated by a 738, and it was full (although there were more O seats on this flight than other flights during the day).

Precarious - I'm more scared of what happens if you are on the SYD-PER JQ flight and you get close to curfew cut-offs due to delays etc. Remember what happened last time JQ got caught out by the curfew? Actually, two incidents - one was where JQ flew the next day (but pax got left in the cold) and another where JQ wasn't granted dispensation but took off anyway, then got fined.

I think this about tapping into untapped markets. JQ pax are not necessarily the same ones that fly QF and vice versa (particularly on 4 hr flights), which is why on routes like PER they can probably coexist. It has been well documented on AFF JQ's positioning as the low fare carrier, and beggars belief that on occassions are more expensive than full service competitors, still doesn't stop people believing the marketing spin.

2:55 seems to be a reasonable amount of fat in the schedule before curfew kicks in. More things to worry about in life than that.

Yeah, but the budget first-time holiday maker won't be too keen on a half past midnight arrival into Perth. Red-eyes are traditionally for the regular, frequent traveller. And given their price was only $50 less than QF's lead-in, for a 4.5 hour flight, ergh.

No, they're not. They're for the sick-minded and those that escaped our revolving-door mental institutions.

Either that or dead beats that need to get somewhere across the country and were too stupid to get in early for the cheap bucket fares at more sane times of the day, or have a schedule that's tighter than a worm's rear end.

I'm joking on all of this, of course. Still, as a frequent flyer, I wouldn't say red-eyes are my cup of tea. In fact, I'd avoid them like the plague unless they are at least 5.5 or 6 hours in length.

I guess for $50 less you miss out on meals and IFE, but considering that most people will sleep on a red-eye and skip out both of those...*shrug*.

For myself, I'd rather pony up $50 extra for status credits, 4488 points, 38 kg of checked baggage and a front row seat.
