Link: Outlook of Jetstar Pacific uncertain with possible Vietnam Airlines stake | CAPA

With a run on the Dong (local currency) not surprised local entrepreneurs are not willing to lay out slabs of money on uncertainty and re-regulation, leaving the state to 'buy in' when the reserves are low and the banks sitting on delinquent land speculation loans.

Hmm Interesting times for .Vn tourism, which has low numbers of repeat tourism. First hand, Jetstar has a fantastic (good) reputation with the locals (a huge plus).

If they don't like Jetstar, wait until Chinese LCC's start taking their rightful place.

Interesting comment. Everyone I know who has been to Vietnam says it is a beautiful place to visit and they had a great time yet many do not return. Why is that?

Vietnam is one place I have always wanted to visit but have been reluctant to do so until now. I think I will wait a little longer.

"Vietnam has a return rate of just 5% compared to Thailand’s whopping 50%."

Plus a $55 Visa, even for short stays, plus a steep airport 'tax' has a lot to do with things .

I think it has to do with 'chaos' and tourist hassles - If I want a holiday, then that is an ingredient I can avoid.

Its still hugely funny, that JQ on its merits, is causing a whole lot of pain to the mates club, but can't be turned away easily.

I had no idea the return rate was only 5%!

My holiday to Vietnam last year was the best holiday I ever had but I dont feel an urgent desire to return and do it all again. The tourism is vastly different to Thailand, much less Westernised and much more challenging. It's not the sort of place you go and lie on a beach and do absolutely nothing, its more challenging and interesting and thats what I liked about it. It's not really set-up for Western tourists much.

I had such a great holiday I would fear if I returned to do it all again it would not be as good. I did all the touristy things (with the exception of Sapa) so would only be repeating things/lazing around doing nothing and there are better places to do that (i.e. Thailand).

If you have never been it is an amazing country - beautiful people, amazing food, terrific tropical scenery and cheap cheap cheap. But it's not the sort of place you go for every summer vacation.

We've been there three times and I can honestly say it's a great family holiday destination - from the South to the North. Safe, friendly, great food, great resorts, clean beaches, amazing scenery & history.

Maybe a reason that the return rate is low is that many people choose to do a run where they visit Vietnam along with Cambodia (Siam Reap/Angkor Wat) & Laos - then tick the have done box.

Another reason could be is that they run the USD along side the Dong as an everyday commercial currency. i.e, you pay in USD & get Dong back.

From what I've seen the amount of foreign capital that has been pouring into the country over the past 8 years has been staggering.
