I've recently done a price match through Jetstar with a Price Guarantee to match the prices from Virgin Australia. In doing this, they've mandatorily applied a $7 per flight, per person credit card surcharge to the reservation.

Is this normal?, in the past I've matched Tiger Airways fares without Jetstar applying the credit card fees. The call centre agent advised this was the "norm".

Last time I did price guarantee, they also applied the surcharge.
Unless you pay with MasterCard Debit Card just like Tiger. Then no surcharge.

No surcharge was added to any other Price Beats I've done for myself and others (most recently a week ago). They had tightened up on the 1 hour rule for domestic flights though and wouldn't match a Tiger flight 2 hours earlier.

yes, this is the first time it's happened with me. I advise that Virgin accepted Internet Banking - however, Jetstar requires immediate payment. It's not mentioned in any of Jetstar's price match policies.

I had the same thing. I had used Price Guarantee only 2 days before and had no problem using an Amex without charge. Then they wanted to charge me $7 for another flight a couple of days later. I argued it and they told me that they would remove the charge. This they did but what they also did was adjust the luggage allowance and flight charge so that the total came to the one that they wanted including the extra $7 but it simply wasn't shown as a credit card charge.

Another discussion with them has resulted in them sending me a credit by email but nothing has hit my card as yet so I think another call will be necessary.

I have used Price Guarantee several times with them and this is the first time they added such a charge

OK so I'm about to try a JQ price match with Tiger for the first time ever.

What's the current deal on payment? Can I get a booking number and pay via internet banking, or do I need to pay on the spot via credit card and wear the $7 charge?

My understanding is that you have to pay at the time of booking (good luck getting through though, I've been trying for 2 days) but that there shouldn't be a credit card charge and, if they try and impose it then argue that they have never done that before for a Price Guarantee Booking.

Although I have been issued for a credit I have yet to see it hit my account.

Well I waited about 10 minutes for the call to be answered, thought that was actually pretty good for this time of day in the middle of a big sale.

Flight was price matched with Tiger without questions, $36 for JQ35, and although I was ready for a fight over the credit card surcharge, the guy on the phone actually said "because you must pay immediately via credit card, there is no surcharge" :)
