Jetstar today will launch the new SIN-PEK service.
The flight number will be JQ7 and JQ8;
SIN-PEK: 18:35 dept and arrive at 00:50
PEK-SIN: 02:50 dept and arrive at 09:30

Launch flight is the 24th November 2011

Link to come soon when i find one.

On A320 or A330?

I read the title and thought it was going to be SYD-PEK!

Does that mean JQ8 will be retimed to depart SIN at ~ 11am?

Not too sure, i only had information relating to the SIN launch. Could may well be the case though? When i find out more, will let you know.

I thought the On Time Performance of JQ7/8 was appalling? This wont improve it. Are you certain it's not a down-gauge?

Beijing is now a selectable city on the jetstar website! Although no flights are available yet.

Interesting way of getting there, wonder how much Business all the way will cost?

Would have preferred Shanghai though :p

There will be an extremely short sharp 2 hour launch sale from 15:30 to 17:30
(AEST) followed by a longer sale that runs from 17:30 on 13th July to 01:59am on
Friday the 15th July (AEST).

Jetstar fly to "Shanghai" in true LCC style :

1. Awaiting regularotry approval for Ningbo Detail (2.5hr drive to Shanghai).

2. Try: Hangzhao (HGH) 200km by road!

Is that $499 one-way? (So about $1,100 return, after adding some fees and so on) That still sounds higher than the competition.....

At least they're putting on the A330s.

Obviously trying to get on the heels of the Chinese rather than Australian market, with a particular emphasis that Chinese mostly don't care about product etc. more than price = a very different perception of flying than (a decent enough number of) Australians. Also not a bad tag flight with a somewhat attractive market in PEK/SIN.

The timing of the flights is pretty tight (although not unexpected for a through-flight as such). JQ doesn't have a great OTP on MEL/SIN; even with the superior SIN facilities they're going to find it hard to get good turnaround on schedule the whole way through, and let's not even think about how that may impact if the schedule gets cooked in and/or out of PEK.

Also, timing of the flights between SIN and PEK looks just downright nasty; PEK-SIN reminds me of a bad red-eye horror similar to PER-MEL or (BKK or HKG)-ICN. It's amazing how people choose to fly at these times at the expense of their well-being.......

SIN-PEK is on sale from SIN for $98 SGD, travelling dates 31/1/12 - 7/3/12, 24/4/12 - 23/5/12, excluding Fri, Sat, Sun. Available at the same time as the ex-MEL sale.

After which, it's available at $148 SGD, 24/11/11-13/12/11, 10/1/12-18/1/12, 31/1/12-7/3/12.

Well it's worse than that the JQ flight SIN-MEL HASN'T been retimed. So the overall PEK-MEL sector is a 25 hour odyssey, involving not one but TWO overnight flights. Obviously this flight is all about the SIN-PEK market, how they can advertise it as a service from Melbourne to Beijing (or rather Beijing to Melbourne) is beyond me. Arrives into SIN at 09:30 and leaves again at 20:50.

Shame really as for some, an 11am (daytime service) from SIN would actually be quite amenable, and provide connections from morning 3K arrivals and even from QF 32 without the need to transit SYD or PER and arrive at midnight.

A direct flight with a 11 hour 20 mins stop over... is this a world record?

A day flight SIN-MEL would work well for variety and choices, I thought. The red-eye slots are already well served by QF10 (usually an A380), and also to a certain degree the direct JQ flight via DRW on the narrow bodies for those who want to save a few $.

That's ridiculous. I've never heard of a layover like that. Who do they think they're kidding?

It is ridiculous. But I like it. A whole day to go and eat in Singapore sounds like a nice way to make the most of the journey.

Jeez you must really love your tucker mate.

I regularly take the SQ afternoon flight and have 10/12 hour layover in SIN before continuing to PVG, CAN or PEK - fabulous nightlife in SIN albeit expensive - but spending a day their eating aint gonna be on my radar.
