No quotes, but just noticed on the Jetstar (Singapore) website that they are extending their services from SIN to TPE to KIX.

So now for the adventurous, you can do a complete Circle Asia on Jetstar ....

MEL-OOL-KIX-TPE-SIN-DRW-MEL . Not that one would want to!

Unlikely unless QJi release a 332 for intra Asian routes ...

I wouldn't be surprised if they get some more 330s as mooted, we will see one going back and forth between SIN & NRT, they are certainly seeking rights for this route (after being rejected in application for SIN/HND rights).

I'm not sure the Qantas group (or oneworld) would be endeavouring to undercut a JAL route at this point in time.

Qantas currently have a codeshare (QF4021) SIN to NRT on the 23:20 JAL red-eye (JL710) connecting from the evening QF flight arrivals from MEL, SYD, PER, BNE, ADL, LHR & FRA.

BA operate a codeshare on this service as well (BA4608).

Re: Jetstar launches services SIN-TPE-KIX

Had a look at the flex fare (to earn SC’s) and at about AUD$600 it’s not a great deal, but could be worse.

Yes but the JAL codeshare does nothing for Singapore based passengers, a Jetstar operation to Tokyo would not be targetted at Australian passengers, especially given that Jetstar is earning a position in the marketplace as the better of the three LCC's based in Singapore. And I think QF would happily sacrifice JAL if it meant damaging SQ.

I realise media reports need to be taken with a grain of salt, but more info on routes online (dated yesterday) and here.

3K is minority owned by QF and as such alliances QF have may not come into play as much as we think, I believe Qantas will try to keep 3K operating sub 4 hour short haul high freq fleet and leave the widebodies to the airlines they fully own, especially with the imminent Europe expansion for JQi coming, I dont see any future for JQi intra Asia, especially on widebodies.

3KI dont see any future for JQi intra Asia, especially on widebodies.

There are plenty of news stories that suggest that 3K is hoping to access some of QF's latest order of A330s. Google "Jetstar Asia 330" and you'll get a number of interesting (but not sure how accurate) articles.

For a start access to beyond Changi rights may be easier for SIN based carrier (3K) and the medium-longhaul LCC market from SIN is still untapped (compared to AK's operations at KUL), limited by the range of A320s. You get a 330 and you can do non stops to Japan, Korea, northern half of China, western half of India and the Middle East, all attractive markets to Singaporeans and passengers originating in those destinations without relying on support from traffic from Australia.

Apart from wishful thinking from the 3K CEO I see no substance or sense in the speculation, other than a possible expansion by 3K to the middle east, even then I dont see them giving 5 new aircraft to an airline they dont fully control.

What I do see them doing, though, is build a network of JQi and 3K. For example, you could view the forthcoming Taipei-Osaka flight as a way of 3k providing a feeder from Taiwan to the JQi Cairns/Gold Coast flights.

Strategically if what 3K is proposing undermines one or both SQ & Tiger, QF would surely seriously consider backing it. 3K, unlike the other two (Tiger, Air Asia) have quite a focus on the main cities (MNL, HKG, BKK, TPE, KUL, CGK, PNH, RGN) rather than purely leisure destinations, I am sure in some way this is not only to differentiate from TR but put price pressure on SQ dominated routes. If they could do likewise to places like PVG, PEK and NRT (or nearby airports), I am sure QF would encourage it.

Not sure if they would take the risk with 49% ownership, they had to put in $50M to get Temasek off their backs a year ago, I would not be surprised if they see the Middle East as being more of a threat these days.
