Just a query as to experiences others have had with JQi checked baggage restrictions.
As related in a previous post http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/no-meals-drinks-11051.html I was annoyed at the fact that JQi no longer provide any inclusive food/drinks to those travelling on a JQi-operated QF award with a QF flight number, as I experienced from Sydney to Osaka.
However, to annoy me even further, on the return JQi flight (Osaka to Sydney via Brisbane), they strictly enforced the 20kg checked baggage limit and tried to impose excess baggage charges on me. I checked closely and they were doing this to each and every passenger with any baggage over 20kg, blanket rule, no exceptions or discretion applied.
I realise that it is clearly stated in JQi's terms and conditions, however I thought they may have at least have had some discretion. Perhaps I have just been lucky in the past. I have travelled many times above the prescribed limits with QF, Air NZ, Air Pacific, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific etc and have never been asked to pay (within reason, single suitcase a few kg over).
The resultant with the return flight from Osaka to Sydney (JQi) was that I ended up lugging around 25kg (3 bags) in carry-on baggage onto the aircraft (they didn't question that, or it was too late as I had passed through security and check-in had closed-off), and then lugged it off and on again in transit at Brisbane. So much for safety or passenger comfort concerns!
Jetstar selectively chooses when it wants to be associated with QF. eg: In Japan, all of their marketing/advertising boldly shows "A Qantas Group Airline", leveraging off the QF brand, yet they then turn around and punish loyal QF customers - treating them as though they are a first time customer.
In this case I chose to use my QF awards on JQi as that was the only direct way to get from Sydney to Osaka, however next time I will certainly consider CX via HKG or JL via NRT rather that the pathetic excuse for an airline (JQi).
JQi - never again.
