Jetstar frequent flyers to be rewarded

Article from:

JETSTAR's new frequent flyer scheme, due to start in February, will reward flyers with a free ticket for a certain number of sectors taken.

The system will be accessed over the internet and will complement the Qantas scheme, so passengers can convert between the two.
Passengers will get more credit for longer sectors but Jetstar chief executive Alan Joyce said this week that the airline had yet to work out a formula for that process.
"You could go very basic and do longhaul/shorthaul, or you could do, maybe, four categories, so it could be combinations," he said.
The airline is also looking at wireless access for mobile phones that will allow passengers to send text messages as well as a new seat-back in-flight entertainment system on its Boeing 787s. The new entertainment system would operate on several tiers, with the lowest offering free content and passengers paying for premium content on the higher tiers.

Quick, book as many $1 flights as you can in February...

Wonder if it'll be a separate FF# again. And of course, this is not part of OneWorld.

Sounds a lot like jetBlue's TrueBlue program in the U.S. Fully internet-based, no card, etc.

Probably going to be a buy-10-get-1-free kinda thing.

Or, knowing JQ, a buy-10-get-a-free-one-way-trip-to-Launceston-in-the-middle-of-February-excluding-taxes

Sounds fun. :p

Well, there you go, JQ asked http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/qantas-frequent-flyer/frequent-flyer-program-revamp-9995.html those of us who fly with them - if we preferred the Rex Flyer or Velocity Frequent Flyer programs… and guess who won?

Still, it had better compliment the Qantas scheme…
  • Recognition with online seat selection (on par with Jet Flex for QFF PS & above) OR bring back the glitch!
  • Lounge Access in all ports where JQi has a Star Class agreement with an operator other than QP (QFF SG & above + QP members)
  • Star Class stays at a status rewarding - business class rate (& doesn’t move down to a “premium economy” level).
  • ... various other rants about recognition.

I have been considering this press report of JQ’s fly ten flights, get one free loyalty idea. And not being one to hold back, I will share my idea for rewarding Jet Saver / Sale fare purchasers…

I call it 2,4,6,8 - Jetstar Hours.

Obviously Jet Flex & Star Class passengers should continue to be rewarded with QFF points, so let’s not worry about them.

2,4,6,8 is easy, it’s based on the scheduled duration of the flight segment –
  • 2: Flights 2 hours or under
  • 4: Flights longer than 2 hours, up to 4 hours
  • 6: Flights longer than 4 hours, up to 6 hours
  • 8: Flights longer than 6 hours, up to and over 8 hours
  • 10,12...etc can be added as/if required depending how far 787's can fly
The next bit is simple - 2,4,6,8 is how many "hours"(points) you get for that segment.

Redeeming is even easier, just multiply by ten - or - 20,40,60,80
  • 20: Get any JQ one way flight that is scheduled to last 2 hours or less
  • 40: Get any JQ one way flight that is scheduled to last 4 hours or less
  • 60: Get any JQ one way flight that is scheduled to last 6 hours or less
  • 80: Get any JQ flight up to or over 8 hours
So, fly ten 2 hour flights, get one free, fly ten 4 hour flights, get one free…

OR, mix it up…

Fly two 8 hour flights PLUS one 4 hour flight... that's 20hours, so get one 2 hour flight free.

Not as good as QFF points, but better than what we get at the moment, i.e. nothing! And, best of all, you don’t need a degree (or AFF's most senior) to help you work it all out. :D

As for redemption - you earned on a Jet Saver fare, so you can redeem on any applicable flight that has a Jet Saver fare for sale.

[Oh, and of course, I would want some QFF status accumulation as well!]

JQ already uses your Qantas FF profile for details about you etc. I see their scheme as utilising your Qantas FF number (in a separate database) for their loyalty scheme or pushing points back to Qantas as is appropriate for your fare.

If you don't want a Qantas FF account - fine. JQ will create an account for you.

(my best guess on how they'll work it).

Well, the aspects of that seem exactly how their stupid "MMB equivalent" account system works at the moment! AND let me tell you, I have no end of problems with it...
  • Sale fares, accessed from Jet Mail won't link to your QFF number,
  • you have to log in first to associate making a regular booking with your QFF number, but potter off to view a different page on their website, then go back and make a booking and you don't even realise you've been logged out
  • simply entering your QFF# at the end of the booking process, is not sufficient for their system to link the booking and your account (anymore)
  • get an error message trying to associate the booking with your account, once you have done the booking
  • ...don't get me started LOL
I have actually written suggestion letters/emails to them about this, but either no one cares, or no one understands what the hell I am on about! (Most likely both.)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hard to know if it won because people in the survey chose it that way, or it won because it is a cheaper system to implement!

Not really clear to me how it will compliement the Qantas scheme. Presumably you will have to credit to one or the other, and what does it mean for SC's at lower fare levels?

I wonder what the QFF plan with premium economy is. Perhaps they will introduce another earning tier for it?

My guess would be full WHY SCs the same as current BA World traveller plus.

Hard to know...
Of course... you're on the ball again! We don’t really know who won, we can only guess… But you bet QFF knows, and is now in possession of some pretty specific & intricate data comparing the Frequent Flyer Programs of Qantas, Virgin Blue & Rex.

I don't doubt that they would have all manner of complex models that they are analysing, and have chosen the one with the cheapest prices (but can have some decent marketing spin on it). Will be interesting to see how they deal with the different flight lengths.

Any chance of status in this new program - and more to the point - recognition of QFF elite members? Priority check-in/boarding/baggage/seating etc.

Then again, if you were going to do that, you may as well paint the roo on the tail and give me a free muffin and coffee.

I do expect a significant downgrade in earning in the QFFP as a result of this...
Methinks no more J class SCs for Starclass.

But some form of swapping of JQ points for QF points

They still need to be linked if QF wants to sell off the programs, like the Canucks

I was wondering where this speculation came from:

"The white marsupial adorning the red tails of Qantas planes might be revamped or "modernised", according to speculation swirling among staff writing on industry websites and in chatrooms... " more from news.com.au

I peruse a lot of forums related to qantas and general aviation. Cannot find a reference to a changing of the roo. Oh well. I'm not a Newspaper, perhaps News.com.au has better sources than I have?

Maybe they're changing the logo to something like Mr Burns from the Simpsons - money hungary frugal company? :D (cough fuel fines, fare increases, fuel flines)

It was mentioned in Crikey a week or so ago, and discussed on Airliners.Net. You can even find some comments on airliners.net that the news article attributed to observers :)

Uh Oh! When a newspaper starts quoting Airliners.net posters, you know they're going for the top of the barrel for their sources :D

I don't normally read Airliners.net, due to, let's say, issues with the content, but a search quickly found the 'observers' :)

Cricket, oops crikey, some of the posts/pics on that airliners.net thread are getting out of control!
