Hello i'm thinking of flying cairns to Canberra soon
options are Qantas cairns - Brisbane - Canberra
or
jq cairns - Sydney qf Sydney - Canberra

if I go jq/qf via Sydney with carry on only what's the process to go from Jetstar to Qantas
if I do it with checked baggage what's the process

or is it better to just go Qantas via Brisbane with no hassle

reason for the via Sydney flight suit me better and would rather Sydney lounge
reason via Brisbane cheaper but flights are much earlier in the day

HLO is easy as both do OLCI, checked baggage there are no connections, pickup in Sydney and do the walk of shame (railway tunnel) to Qantas to recheck bags.

QF, always QF... There would need to be an extremely good reason why I'd consider adding JQ into an itin.
Besides if all booked with QF, you will end up in CBR. If booked with JQ you'd be running the gauntlet.
