Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Used the whole runway to roll out, engineering issue seems probable.

Also seems like an extra flight covering from prior days cancellations, VKE operating a second CNS-NRT today as JQ1025

JQ7 MEL-SIN-MEL canceled today.

@Dmac59 , that aircraft (B788 VH-VKG) eventually arrived SGN at 0122 this morning, 262 minutes late. It is on its way back to MEL as JQ64 running about 236 minutes late assuming the gate arrival time doesn't alter.

On Sunday 14 December, A320 VH-VFQ had overnighted in Melbourne but has had a shockingly late start to what should be a busy day given it's 10 days prior to Christmas.

JQ900, the 0705 hours MEL-BQB took off at 1038 hours with arrival suggested as 1129 hours, 194 minutes behind schedule.

FR24 asserts that the aircraft will be on its way as JQ901 at 1145 hours from Busselton back to Melbourne. Even if the arrival time is advanced by a few minutes, this is most unlikely. I often wonder how these supposed departure times are calculated when it ought be blindingly obvious a turnaround usually takes at least 35 minutes, and often longer.

JQ48 ex ICN arrived SYD on Sunday at 1125, 80 minutes late with B788 VH-VKH.

The BNE up to CEB JQ101 on Sunday 14 DEcember (A321 VH-OYK) took off at 1315 hours, arriving at 1804, 49 minutes late. The return flight (JQ100) timetabled to depart at 2015 hours has been cancelled, meaning the plane remains in Cebu.

Monday 15 December 2025 finds JQ17, the scheduled 1155 hours MEL-HKT (coughet) having taken off at 1253 hours with ageing B788 VH-VKB. Arrival at this secondary but busy Thai airport should be at about 1721 hours, 71 minutes late.

JQ17/18 had been cancelled yesterday (Sunday 14) so no doubt the aircraft today will be full (but not 'full and standing' as with long distance trains in some countries).

Jetstar Japan Airbus in Sapporo after landing from Tokyo/Narita became unmovable on a taxiway due to snow. Bad weather meant they had to wait for a rescue
The aircraft was towed to the gate three hours later. No reported injuries among the six crew and 161 passengers.
Jetstar Japan is a subsidiary of Japan Airlines. It is a Japanese low-cost airline since 3 July 2012. The airline has 22 Airbus A320 family
It is a joint venture between Qantas, Japan Airlines and Tokyo Century Corporation, which owns 33.3%, 50% and 16.7% stakes respectively
Airbus A320 - MSN 5245 JA04JJ
Serial number 5245
Type 320-232

@dajop 's favourite flight that over the years has a dismal record of cancellations, JQ8, the Monday 15 December 2025 2100 hours SIN-MEL took off at 0105 on Tuesday 16. MEL arrival should be about 1100 hours, 215 minutes late. VH-VKG is the B788.

I’d love to know what happened to that aircraft.

If you have a quick skim at VH-VKG over the last few weeks on FR24, it’s been running decently reliably since mid October, and ever since JQ9 was canceled on 9 Dec it’s been running well behind ever since.

And this particular JQ7 delay you mentioned seems to be VKG still running behind after diverting back to Melbourne on 13 Dec as JQ73.

I've been called away on a work trip so cutting short my usual January in Victoria to just the first week. So I am on JQ7 again in January. (SQ and QF were very high pricing and no award tickets of course).

I'm probably playing a dangerous game though, as i've only allowed 39 hrs time between that and then departing again on my work trip. I'm not entirely sure that is enough, I probably should have booked a day earlier to allow a full 63 hrs. I think the MCT is 60 minutes hours.

Could be worse - I’m on JQ7 tomorrow connecting to a 6E flight departing 105 minutes later!

I’ve already got my speech to JQ’s ground handlers prepared for my arrival.

Good luck!

105 minutes in fine - either you will make it easily , or you'll miss it by a long shot! No in between. Although do notethe JQ7 flights that actually leave MEL on time often do a few laps over Batam before landing (as does QF35) due to ATC (congestion/storms etc). But looking at 20 minute not 20 hour delays then.

At this stage, the MEL airport site claims you're departing from gate 20 tomorrow (in T2). However there's no JQi arrival I can see using that gate, only a VN flight earlier, so unclear which aircraft is likely to form your flight.

Thanks for the informative post. Wonder if it’s VH-VKA, which has been on the ground in MEL since Sunday morning. Time will tell!
