Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

JQ576, the 1735 hours Monday 6 May 2019 MEL - BNE took off more or less on time at 1751. However A320 VH-VQM only got as far north as Violet Town before turning back. It is landing at 1830 hours in MEL.

Was this a medical diversion back to the point of origin or a problem with the aircraft? This flight was due to arrive in BNE at 1945 so passengers will be severely late if they manage to make it tonight to the Sunshine State.

Joy upon joy!

Today (Thursday 2 May 2019) B788 VH-VKJ was released from its KIX "prison" and has operated JQ8999, airborne from KIX at 1516 Japanese time and arriving at HKG at 1805 hours.

It had been impounded subsequent to its 29 March 2019 arrival in KIX as it had major engine problems upon descending, as noted above in more than one post. That was 34 days ago....

Further joy!

JQ9992, an empty ('ferry') flight, departed HKG at 1823 hours on Monday 6 May 2019 so should arrive in MEL on Tuesday 7 at around 0521 hours. This should bring normality back to JQ's schedules (although even when all 11 of the B788s are carrying passengers, there's still quite a few delayed flights).

Sad news for QF B744 VH-OEB though. The scrapyard awaits.

JQ473, Tuesday 7 May 2019's NTL - MEL took off at 0648 despite a scheduled pushback time of 0605 hours, so arrival for A320 VH-VQJ should be half an hour behind at 0815.

Despite B788 VH-VKJ having arrived in MEL at 0511 hours on Tuesday 7 May (ex HKG - see above), as at 1600 hours it had not departed on any flight.

QF6403/6404 are again operating as a replacement for the JQ flights SYD - HNL and return. However QF6403 is expected to depart 95 late at 1800 hours, meaning QF6404 will also be tardy.

In yet another ferry flight, JQ8990 (B788 VH-VKA) departed MEL at 1102 hours on Wednesday 8 May bound for SYD. Some flight tracking websites such as FR24 maintain it's proceeding to CNS but that appears incorrect. The flight had to hold above Goulburn for one racecourse circuit.

After arriving from HKG on its ferry flight to MEL early on Monday 6 May, VH-VKJ still doesn't appear to have operated any revenue passenger flights. This is the aircraft that on 29 March had the serious problems with its engines on approach to KIX. It then spent more than a month impounded there.

While this aircraft remains unavailable for passengers, JQ will struggle to operate its published timetable, quite apart from the interesting question AFFer MEL_Traveller poses as to whether JQi can achieve this even with all its B788s in service.

These ferry flights are an expensive way for aircraft to form departures and must eat into JQ's margins. While a small additional expense compared against the QF Group's total revenue (and profits), nonetheless these transfer flights are an additional unbudgeted expense.

JQ35 is being operated by VH-VKJ. It departed a little late after 1800hrs. Currently over Coober Pedy at 2000hrs

Interesting, because earlier on Tuesday 8 May, the 1545 hours JQ1 flagship from MEL up to HNL was cancelled, as will be JQ2.

And just after noon today, JQ7, the 1110 hours twice weekly MEL - SIN departed at 1209 hours.

JQi is nothing if not consistently unpunctual on its non-TransTasman routes.

JQ436 (Thursday 9 May, the 1230 hours lunchtime MEL - OOL, A321 VH-VWN, airborne at 1325 hours) should arrive at 1515, 45 late.

The 1415 hours afternoon of Thursday 9 May 2019 AYQ across to SYD, JQ861, is expected to depart at 1500 hours so arrival has been put back to 1835, 50 late.

JQ515, the 1400 hours SYD - MEL that took off at 1447 should arrive at 1608, 33 late. Aircraft is A320 VH-VQJ.

Later on 9 May 2019, JQ916 (A321 VH-VWT, the 1630 hours afternoon MEL up to TSV airborne at 1743 hours) should arrive at about 2035, 65 late.

Seems to be back to operation normal with VH-OEB not operating today, ending what's no doubt been a tough month for the JQ schedulers

On an unattractive blustery and rainy Friday 10 May 2019 (but we need the rain), JQ520, the 1630 hours northbound MEL - SYD was airborne at 1731, so arrival is delayed until a suggested 1843, 48 minutes late.

JQ37 (B788 Vh-VKA, the 1640 hours afternoon SYD up to DPS) did not become airborne until 2037 so arrival is predicted for 0026 hours on Saturday 11, 201 minutes late. JQ38 back will be badly late.

The 1335 hours late lunchtime MEL - BNE, JQ564, on Sunday 12 May 2019 took off at 1419. A320 VH-JQX should arrive at 1615 this afternoon, half an hour behind.

Earlier, B788 VH-VKI had been stabled in MEL overnight but that did not stop it running late on the Sunday JQ7, the twice weekly 1110 hours MEL up to SIN. It departed at 1225 and took off at 1235 hours, so delayed arrival is 1804 in the early evening, 74 late.

B788 VH-VKH on JQ64, the Monday 20 May 2235 hours redeye from SGN down to MEL was not airborne until 0608 on Tuesday 21. Arrival should be at 1606 hours, 476 minutes late. This is due to JQ63, the mid afternoon Monday 1515 hours northbound (MEL up toSGN) not pointing skywards until 2212 last night.

Yesterday the aircraft arrived MEL at 1953 hours, seven early on JQ44 ex Beli's DPS so it looks like it was substituted for a failed member of the same B788 class.

A further consequence is that JQ17, the 1450 hours MEL - HKT is predicted to depart at 1730 so pretty close to minimum turnaround times for aircraft VKH. JQ18 returning overnight from coughet cannot help but be delayed, so patience will be required up there.

If any AFFer was on this soutbound today, were hotel rooms provided in Ho Chi Minh City? One problem would be if JQ did not know the extent of the delay (i.e. it kept changing), it'd be difficult to predict when passengers would be required to be at the SGN airport.

Continuing with Tuesday 21 May 2019, JQ17 has been further delayed to an expected 1830 hours pushback in MEL.

Tomorrow's (22 May) JQ7 from MEL to SIN, the twice weekly 1110 hours, should depart at 1330. We call that the 'Mel_Traveller special' since ha of all AFFers knows the most about this flight that if I recall was not so long ago a daily offering.

Further to the above JQ17 has now been pushed back( cancelled in my eyes) until tomorrow with "engineering issues" JQ 18 will now leave (maybe) at 12.55am on 23rd. Typical Jetstar. Every JQ17 flight this week has either been severely delayed or not flown at all. Pathetic
