Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Extremely heavy rain (for Melbourne) at around 2000 hours on Tuesday 19 December has seen JQ715 (1855 hours MEL down to HBA< A321 VH-VWQ) take off at roughly 2018 with arrival said to be 2126 hours, 76 minutes tardy.

On Wednesday 20 December, JQ944 (A320 VH_VGQ, the 0610 hours MEL - CNS) had yet to take off by 0707. It will be at least 40 minutes late arriving.

Friday 22 December sees JQ720 (1325 hours HBA up to SYD that took off at 1644 hours, A320 VH-VFF) suggested as arriving at 1821 hours, 191 minutes behind time. Its only other use today was on the SYD - HBA JQ720, the 1045 hours that did not take off until 1319 this afternoon.

JQ521 (1725 hours SYD - MEL that was airborne at about 1754, roughly 15 minutes late, A321 VH-VWW) was held above Mt Buller and hence should arrive at around 1833 hours, 33 minutes late.

Major delays and cancellations out of HBA and ADL this morning it seems. JQ's response, rather patronisingly it seems, is that '[they] understand the inconvenience this may cause, there is no compromise on safety. Thanks - C' and 'While we understand the inconvenience this may have caused, we will always follow the appropriate safety measures for our aircraft even if it means we need to change our schedule. Thanks - Marvin'

Boxing Day flight delays leave cricket fans ‘shattered’

Who knows the actual reason for the delay. It might be safety related. It might be within the control of the airline. It might not. For those with cancelled flights, this is where an EU261 can come in ... providing funds for highly priced alternative transport.

MEL-Traveller, couldn't agree more. Not as if these passengers realistically can travel on Spirit of Tasmania ferry (which itself may be heavily booked). The airline industry gets away with many things that consumers would not tolerate were it a Coles, JBHiFi, Woolworths or many surface transport providers. Not good enough, and compounded by in some circumstances how LCC airline fares are little or no cheaper than legacy airlines when one adds the cost of luggage and if appropriate, meals to an LCC fare.

On New Year's Day 2018, JQ119 (A320 VH-VGT) from SYD to NAN, the 0855 hours, took off only marginally late at 0913 but arrival is suggested as 1536, 31 minutes late.

On Wednesday 3 January, JQ63 from SYD to MEL (B788 VH-VKE), the 1610 hours was in the sky at 1649. Arrival should be at 1815 hours, 35 late. This flight then proceeds to SGN with a scheduled MEL departure at 1940, so even with the delay into MEL in theory it should depart on time.

Friday 5 January finds JQ609, the 1830 hours evening SYD - AVV not having become airborne until 1946 hours. A320 VH-VQM should arrive at 2103 hours, 58 minutes tardy.

Saturday 6 January 2018 has JQ517, the 1405 hours SYD - MEL with 220 seat A321 VH-VWZ still only taxiing at 1516 hours, so it will be at least 45 minutes late arriving in the southern capital.

JQ7, which is back to being the 1200 'high noon' MEL - SIN that has experienced so many delays and cancellations in the past couple of years took off on Sunday 7 January at 1322 hours. Arrival should be at 1734 hours, 44 minutes late.

JQ831 (1145 hours lunchtime PPP down to MEL that was not airborne until 1255, A320 VH-JQL) should arrive at roughly 1632 this afternoon, 57 late. This will delay departure of JQ476, the 1630 hours mid afternoon to NTL by at least 25 minutes.

JQ35, the 1855 hours MEL - DPS evening flight is predicted to depart at 0030 hours on Tuesday 9 January.

On Tuesday 9 January, the evening JQ570 (2040 hours MEL - BNE, A320 VH-VFH) did not take off until 2314 hours. Arrival should be at about 0004 hours, 129 minutes late on Wednesday 10.

JQ528 (0850 hours MEL - SYD on Wednesday 10 January, A320 VH-JQL) did not take off until 0951 so expected arrival is 45 late at 1100.

MEL_Traveller, it looks like B788 VH-VKD must have failed in MEL on the evening of Monday 8 January as JQ35, normally the 1855 hours MEL - DPS did not become airborne until 0802 on Tuesday 9, landing in Bali at 1025. JQ36 was similarly delayed with that flight becoming airborne at 1151 for a 1951 hours at gate arrival in MEL last night. The B788 then formed JQ17 from MEL to as you suggest HKT, taking off at 2201 rather than its pushback time of 1530 mid afternoon, and arriving HKT at 0238 hours, 378 minutes late.

VH-VKD then naturally formed JQ18, the scheduled 2145 hours HKT back down to MEL that this morning (10 January 2018) took off at the unattractive time of 0405 hours, meaning suggested arrival in MEL at 1630 this afternoon, 370 minutes late.

it seems passengers were given accommodation at a local airport hotel (very nice apparently). Except for the early morning check out!

MEL_Traveller, if you could establish which hotel and inform us, that would be great.

A few years ago my recollection is that following a spate of negative media regarding JQ stranding passengers at airports when planes had failed, it began to offer accommodation in these circumstances. The saying "it depends" may apply: whether it does this when there are weather-related delays that it could try to claim were outside its control (act of God), I don't know.

In further late running for B788 VH-VKD, the aircraft arrived in MEL at 1616 hours on the delayed JQ18 ex HKT. It then formed a very late 1200 'high noon' JQ7 from MEL to SIN, taking off at 1835 hours. Expected arrival is at 2252 tonight local time, 362 minutes tardy.

We need an EU261! Although perhaps pax were accommodated on other QF services?

Unfortunately I don't know the name of the HKT hotel. It was only via a post on social medial that I even knew about it.
