Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Also on Friday 4 January 2019, JQ1 (B788 VH-VKA, the 1635 hours MEL - HNL) departed at 1704 and took off at 1730. Arrival should be at 0655 same day, 55 late.

4 January 2019 is a disastrous day for JQ flights between MEL and DPS. JQ43, the 1005 hours northbound to Bali departed at 1551, took off promptly at 1604 hours and should arrive at 1825 in the early evening, 330 minutes tardy. Aircraft B788 VH-VKD had arrived from BKK on JQ30 at 1232 hours, 122 minutes late as even though JQ29 yesterday had been on time, there was a significant delay on the ground in Bangkok.

However, even if JQ30 had been on time, JQ43 to DPS would still have departed more than three hours late.

JQ43, the scheduled 1855 hours ex MEL has been altered to depart at 2255 with arrival expected in DPS at 0145 on Saturday 5 instead of 2145 tonight. It is to be formed by the arriving, two minute early expected JQ44 from DPS that should be in at about 2118. Minimum turnaround is the go.

Maybe passengers on 'the 43' will be in hotels by 0330.

In a far less severe delay, JQ17 from MEL to HKT should arrive at 2045 hours, 35 late with VH-VKB.

On the SYD - HNL route, JQ3, the 1755 hours (VH-VKI) took off at 1955 so same day arrival is estimated as 0801 hours, 91 minutes behind the schedule. JQ4 returning will be delayed.

JQ678 (A320 VH-JQG, the 2130 hours mid evening MEL - DRW airborne at 2219) should arrive at 0056 on Saturday 5, 36 late.

Another one, noticed driving past AVV this afternoon, that JQ 714 the 3pm service from HBA to MEL diverted to AVV, after departing HBA 1 hr late, it landed at AVV at 17:34. It eventually continued on to MEL at 20:05 taking 38 minutes and flying 153 miles to travel the 32 miles between the two airports. It reached MEL at 20:43, some 4:23 after scheduled arrival time, after travelling 742 miles instead of the usual 400-450 it takes to fly between MEL and HBA. For the sake of the passengers, I hope they were bussed to either MEL or Southern X.

You must have eagle eyes!

I also hope the above. Don't bet on it.

An "amazing" journey although passengers aboard may not have been as complimentary. 220 seat A321 VH-VWZ was that aircraft. As a result, JQ442 (1705 hours MEL - OOL) and JQ441 (1850 hours OOL - MEL) were cancelled.

The aircraft from HBA looked to divert after being in a holding pattern. Is it possible that it declared a fuel emergency?

Not exactly a red letter day for Jetstar Australia today.

AFFer MEL_Traveller has asked before whether JQ has sufficient aircraft for its timetabled international flights. I don't know the answer as that would require going through every day's roster for a week, but based on today's shocking unpunctuality with two MEL - DPS and return flights and one SYD - HNL, one could observe that it's at the very least struggling.

Saturday 5 January 2019 has started badly for A320 VH-VGI on JQ603, the 0640 hours SYD - AVV that took off at 0750. Arrival should be at 0901, 46 late. This will delay JQ612, the 0845 hours AVV - SYD until at least 0935 in its pushback.

JQ966 (0700 hours early start OOL up to CNS, VH-VGZ) took off at 0744. Arrival should be at 1000 hours, 35 late.

Afraid not ... just Flightradar24 ! Did notice 2 tails on the ground but what made me look on FR was the aircraft approaching to land that was easier spotted but couldn’t quite work out what it was, an Avrojet RJ85 operated by Conair.

The delayed JQ3 ex SYD arrived on Friday 4 January 2019 in HNL at 0814 hours, 99 late with the returning JQ4 (B788 VH-VKI) departing at 0951, 86 late. SYD arrival on Saturday 5 afternoon is estimated as 1658 hours, 73 minutes behind schedule.

VH-VKL on the delayed JQ36 ex DPS should arrive in MEL on Saturday 5 January at 1107 hours, 197 late.

This means a delay to JQ43, the 1005 hours MEL tp DPS, the third consecutive departure to it to be tardy ex MEL. Unrealistically, Melbourne Airport suggests it will depart at 1210 hours, 125 late.

JQ458 (1000 hours SYD up to BNK, VH-VGV) was in the sky at 1056 so arrival is estimated as 1203, 47 late.

JQ816, Saturday 5 January 1100 SYD - BNE had not taken off by 1156, so at the very least A320 VH-VGD will be 45 late arriving.

Saturday 5 January 2019 has started badly for A320 VH-VGI on JQ603, the 0640 hours SYD - AVV that took off at 0750. Arrival should be at 0901, 46 late. This will delay JQ612, the 0845 hours AVV - SYD until at least 0935 in its pushback....

This aircraft spent a lot longer on the ground than allowed in the timetable. It took off on JQ612 (AVV - SYD) at 1114 hours so arrival is predicted for 1225 hours, 135 late.

Later, the 1245 hours AVV - SYD, JQ604 is estimated to depart at 1505, 140 late. Same aircraft as JQ612.

Storms in SYD on 5 January evening have hit from about 1715 as JQ516 (1615 hours ex MEL that took off at 1635, only five minutes late with VH-VWN, an A321, looks to arrive at 1928, 108 minutes late. At least it got there but at the cost of taking an extra 103 minutes compared to the schedule. It must have held above Tumut for a very long time.

JQ486 (1815 hours NTL north to BNE that took off at 1934) has A320 VH-VQH and ought arrive at 1939, 74 late.

With the Sydney 5 January late afternoon and evening continuing storms, JQ604, the 1245 hours lunchtime AVV up to SYD was airborne at 1544 with A320 VH-VGJ and had a large series of holding pattern loops prior to arriving at 1741, 211 late.

The 1635 hours SYD - OOL (JQ418, A320 VH-VGF) took off at 2106 hours so will be at least four hours late arriving in Coolangatta.

Bit 'old news' now - but last Sunday 30/12/18 the JQ7 MEL-SIJN was cancelled... yet again. It seems to only run about 3 out of 4 times.

If anyone finds out, I'm keen to know what alternative arrangements they make! (Do they reaccommodate on the QF service leaving at the same time?)

Due to the late running yesterday, on Sunday 6 January the DPS - SYD JQ38 is arriving at 1024 hours, 184 minutes late with B788 VH-VKI.

JQ529 (0630 hours SYD down to MEL) has VH-JQG and had not taken off by 1115 hours, so will be at least four and a half hours late arriving.

A320 VH-VFV on JQ810, the first of the morning at a scheduled 0605 hours from SYD up to BNE has has a shocking start to its day with it still not having taken off as at 1109 hours. This is almost five hours late. It operated a return BNE - DRW flight overnight and then JQ813, the 0720 hours BNE down to SYD, arriving 15 early at 0840 hours, so presumably due to yesterday's Sydney storms, another aircraft was unavailable for JQ810.

UPDATE: JQ810 was airborne at 1111 hours on 6 January.

Later on Sunday 6 January, the ADL - SYD JQ761 has A320 VH-VFF with predicted arrival at 1558 hours, 78 late.

VH-VGQ on JQ515, the southbound 1330 hours SYD down to MEL took off at 1432 and is forecast to arrive at 1540, 35 late.

B788 VH-VKI is in bad shape with its JQ11 (1030 hours OOL to NRT) taking off at 1417, meaning suggested NRT arrival of 2155 tonight rather than 1830, 205 minutes late. This is the sixth of seven flights where this plane has been more than two hours late arriving.

Eagle eyed AFFer Coops1 has let me know that JQ1, the 1635 hours Sunday 6 January 2019 MEL - HNL (B788 VH-VKL) has turned back to MEL, with expected arrival at around 1930 hours. It got past SYD as it had taken off at 1707 hours this afternoon.

Not sure whether this is a medical emergency (although normally SYD would be chosen were that the case), a technical problem, disruptive passengers or some other reason. From my quick look the Hawaiian weather looks benign.

JQ2 passengers will be in for a long wait.

Continuing with Sunday 6 January, JQ37 (VH-VKE, the 1745 hours late afternoon SYD - DPS that took off at 1927) will be at least an hour late into the Balinese airport.

The 'Herald Sun' in Melbourne has reported on the turnback with an 'anti-ice' problem to blame:

Category: | Herald Sun

While this media outlet says JQ1(D) will depart on Monday 7's morning, it does not say when. JQ's website suggests that the flight will arrive HNL on Sunday at 2325 rather than 0600, which is 17 hours 25 minutes late, so that means departure on Monday morning at around the 1000 mark. The B788 presumably returned to MEL because choosing SYD would mean the passengers tomorrow morning lacked an aircraft.

JQ2 ex HNL will be similarly delayed about 17 hours.

This may also mean another JQi flight on Tuesday is delayed out of MEL.

Further to previous, the overnight delayed JQ1 (Sunday 6 January, 1635 hours MEL to HNL) has taken off from MEL on Monday 7 at 1025 hours but with a different B788, VH-VKJ. Arrival at HNL is estimated as about 2325 on Sunday 6. JQ2, as noted above, will be delayed about 16 - 17 hours with estimated arrival in MEL on Tuesday 8 at 0845 hours instead of 1605 this afternoon.

B788 VH-VKL has not yet been on any further flights following its turnback arrival in MEL last night at about 1930.

JQ35, the 1855 hours tonight (7 January) MEL - DPS has been altered to depart at 0030 on Tuesday 8 so many Bali-bound travellers will be paying for a night of hotel or villa accommodation that they won't be able to use. Excesses of $100 or $200 on travel insurance policies typically mean it is pointless to submit a claim.

A320 VH-VQQ on the 7 January 0850 hours MEL - SYD, JQ528 was airborne at 1001 hours so estimated arrival is 1104, 49 late.
