Jetstar confirms long haul flights from Singapore

Jetstar has announced it intends to launch long haul services from Australia to Singapore, North Asia and/or European destinations from late 2010 as signalled by Travel Today previously (January 29).

As part of its pan Asian network growth plans, Jetstar will operate two Airbus 330-200 aircraft to its major Asian hub at Singapore Changi Airport.

Jetstar’s partnership in growth with Singapore Changi Airport currently supports over 400 weekly return A320 services to 21 destinations directly beyond Singapore including to Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Australia.

Jetstar spokesperson Simon Westaway, told Travel Today in January that Europe has always been on the radar, but Asia was its "clear focus" and "number one" priority for the immediate future.

And the million dollar question is 3K or JQ???????

It will be crewed by 3K.

Hmmmmm....

Why? What carrier is so bad internationally that jq is better?

Merely referring to the fact that direct flights on an A330 will avoid the current arrangement of a double hop on an A320 whilst shoe-horned in

Hmmmm should be interesting on the launch fares they have.

And then again i'm sure there will be some very cheap SC runs possibly!!!

Pro-JQ comments coming from you, JohnK :?:
There is always a first time for everything.

I am really interested as Starclass could be a decent option for my mother and father to get to ATH.

Their sales fares are never points/SC earning, other than StarClass, so unless you were willing to pay non-sale full price fares, which would probably be more than QF, there’s not really any SC earning potential :(

I dont think so, the release goes out of its way not to mention 3K.

Depends on where you look. Other articles have a different spin. Or in Australian Aviation.

I can't really seeing it being anything but Jetstar Asia. It's being crewed by them. 3K, as a Singaporean company will probably have better access to traffic rights than JQ (particularly China I suspect), fifth freedom rights not withstanding. I would also not be surprised to see some "mainstream" destinations on the cards as well as novel destinations - look at 3K's current destinations, very major city oriented (compared to Tiger anyway). Hopefully we'll see some star class sales!

Where does JQ say its being crewed by 3K, again the release goes out of its way to not mention 3K, there is no logical sense to QF letting 3K have the assets, the other owners of 3K dont have the money for equity in the new hardware as evidenced by the small 3K fleet and the taking over of many of the routes by JQ ex SIN. JQ and 3K use different companies for staff, crew and ground handling, a divide and conquer method that works well. I think Australian Aviation and many others have assumed 3K, I believe this is wrong, if it was 3K getting the planes then why was their CEO an onlooker at the announcement rather than being an active participant?

Starclass is the earning potential. It stated as being priced at a full economy fare. It earns with QFF and the seat is hopefully better than a QF economy seat. That is what I'm looking for in flights to southern Europe. Hopefully a bit closer to MUC than ATH.

I'd be more inclined to think they are still working these details through both from a commercial and legal perspective (e.g. can 3K actually operate A330's at this point in time - it is a new type for them). I am sure they could come up with some form of leasing arrangement that allows 3K to operate the aircraft, while not actually having title to them.
