Hi, new to Jetstar, usually fly QF. Flying international, no luggage to check in. Website says can go straight to boarding gate but after we printed our boarding passes I went into app and it says just under boarding pass info that they need to check documentation even though checked in so have to go to checkin counter first. I did online chat with someone who said just go straight to gate so I gave her this further info and after going away for some time she said it was a security thing as it was an international flight. It seems a simple enough question and must come up often, confused as to contradictory information.

ok, but why does website say...

If you’re travelling on selected Jetstar international flights and you don’t have checked baggage, visa or other entry requirements you may be able to check in online and go straight to the boarding gate when you arrive at the airport.

Please note that Straight to Gate is not available if:

  • You’re travelling with an infant
  • You made your booking through Jetstar Group bookings.
  • You need assistance (eg, wheelchairs, extra seats, visual or hearing impairments, service dogs, young passengers travelling alone)
  • Your booking has an outstanding balance
All international flights are eligible for Straight to Gate except for those departing Ho Chi Minh City and to or from Korea, the USA and China.

Singapore has entry requirements, including minimum passport validity and that you have an onward or return ticket. JQ will want to make sure you are complying with those requirements before allowing you to board.
Thanks. Does that mean that every single person boarding that flight will need to queue at counter, terrifying thought

I've travelled MEL-SIN in PE (or whatever the airlines call it) several times on both JQ and TR. In the case of JQ, it would not let me check in online, but I could use the kiosks at the airport to print the BP's 3 hours before departure. Didn't need to see a human at all.

In the case of TR, I could print a boarding pass at home and just go through Immigration and Security to the gate. Given that you have to input your passport details, etc, when checking in online, and also obtain a SG online arrivals card, I don't know why you would have to deal with a human to get a valid boarding pass.

I also flew CGK-SIN-BKK on 3K recently and was able to check in online and obtain a valid BP, which allowed me to waltz through to the gate, without any need to see an agent at all. It all seems a bit random.

Is it a one way or a return booking (or otherwise has travel departing Singapore)?
