the two positions are not contradictory
the drugs were already on the plane and had posed no danger to the flight.
if my next door neighbour drinks a bottle of wine on a Friday night or pops an 'e' it really isn't any of my business provided they don't get behind the wheel of a car.
that my plane might be flying over a war zone concerns me. That the person next to me might be carrying a joint really doesn't.
(my bolding)
No, but with respect, its not your concern that is the issue. The fact that the person next to you might be carrying a joint (or much more? or worse?) concerns the law. And the fact that the crew member took it upon themselves to aid the (theoretical) persons to evade the law is the issue here, as far as I'm concerned.
I can't see much difference here in some-one tipping off any perps that they are about to be busted.
If people carry drugs, they carry them and more fool them. Its not in a flight attendants job description, or in anyone's interest (other than the drug carrier), to help them get away with it.
