On Thursday 22 December 2022, JL773, the 1835 hours NRT-MEL (B788 JA843J) took off at 1947 hours.

On Friday 23, it attempted to land at MEL but presumably there's fog at the airport, so it is diverting to SYD where arrival should be at roughly 0857 hours, compared with its scheduled 0635 hours arrival in MEL. So with luck it might be able to depart MEL at 1300 hours today at a guess, as it won't immediately depart SYD for MEL.

It is unusual for JL to run late twice in a week on the same Australian route unless there was a typhoon or other very adverse weather, but on Saturday 24 December 2022, JL773 (B788 JA828J) took off as the 1835 hours NRT-MEL at 2059 hours. Christmas Day arrival should be 0907 hours, 152 minutes late, delaying JL774 returning again.

Northbound the overnight delayed JL774D became an amended 0640 hours takeoff from MEL with arrival for JA829J in NRT on Christmas Day expected as 1401 hours, 1316 minutes late.

Fog was predicted for Monday 26 December 2022's morning in SYD, and must be present as JL51 (B789 JA861J), the 1825 hours HND redeye down to SYD that took off at 1852 on Christmas night has been in a holding pattern for ages over Cronulla an unusual location for same.

By 0639 hours, the aircraft looked to be diverting to Melbourne, so the delay for the returning flight JL52 ex SYD will be huge.

The diverted JL51 landed in MEL at 0745 hours on Monday 26 December 2022.

UPDATE: JL51 has had an efficient relatively brief stop in Melbourne as it's expected to arrive SYD at 1035 hours, 245 minutes later than the 0620 hours schedule.
