JAL Deepens Restructuring

JAL could start by cutting some flights internally. Haneda to Sendai is ridiculous - ¥20 000 each way and it takes almost as long as the bullet train, and the shink gets you to Tokyo or Ueno whereas you have to travel in from Haneda Airport to get into TYO proper.

And the train is only ¥10 000 or so each way.

JAL does NOT operate Haneda-Sendai. I believe it's ANA who does. The shortest ex-HND JAL flight is to Yamagata

I think you need to get to 10 posts to post links, so I’m sure you’ll get there before this story ends ;)

Yes, I need 10 posts to post links. I am actually hoping I don't get there before this story ends. For JAL's sake, they need to resolve this ASAP. Court filing deadline is June and they are still in fierce negotiations! Hopefully the next time I post an update, it will be the end of this loooooong story ;)

Ah, I stand corrected - still, a stupid route IMO. But I suppose if you are connecting to an international, makes sense.

To my knowledge, neither JAL or ANA have direct flights Haneda-Sendai. Why would they - it's like 300kms.

You are right. ANA operates Narita-Sendai instead of Haneda-Sendai...my bad (That's why I am JALPak not ANAPak ;))

I know. No problem, I'm just trying to nudge your posting count above 10. ;)

Great...Japan Transport Minister said JAL might delay its restructuring plan courting filing today  Google "日本航空 更生計画提出遅れも" for the Japanese article (NHK has a video if you understand Japanese)

Looks like the deadline to finalize the restructuring plan will be postponed to end of August...more time for JAL to fight with the bankers and government who demanded for deeper cuts.

On the other hand, local governments keep protesting against JAL's route suspensions...Hawaii even started an online petition to save the Kona route...IMHO, a better way to save the route is to do something to improve advance bookings for the route and show JAL some real data to back you up.

The plan has been announced including list of route suspensions, capacity/frequency reductions, etc
For complete details, visit my blog. I am still in the process of posting the updates. JAL hasn't updated its Press Release site yet but has somehow uploaded the pdf which I found ;)

To me this list is the most important part of the JAL restructuring.

At least they are keeping SYD and not completely withdraw from Australia yet...bankers are still asking for deeper cut not sure if there are any updates on this during the press conference.

Yup probably they will offer you refund or route through SYD. You should definitely give JAL or the ticketing airline a call ASAP.

I'll get onto it later today - cheers mate.

Quick question - This was the only direct NRT flight out of BNE? (KIX ok for another option as well).

(not interested in JQ out of OOL)

Japan Airlines pulls out of flights on Brisbane route | JAL

QF might take over BNE-NRT. Until that happens, I believe JAL is the only OW option if you want direct flight.

But I would route it via SYD to fly on JAL as much as possible (cuz I am JALPak) ;)

Well there goes my hopes of JAL ever returning to MEL, they expressed it last year, I think with 787's. Hope NH might make it to OZ, don't know why but OZ & NH tend to exclude OZ out of their Pacific route map, might be a *A thing. (though OZ has flights to SYD)

NH, JAL or even QF should atleast launch direct flights between Melbourne & Tokyo, MEL has alot of Japanese companies' australian hq's, NEC, TOYOTA etc... Why did QF axe the flights?

I would say not enough of these companies weren't paying for business class.

As Sydney-Japan is less than 10 hours a lot of companies then only send their staff economy.

I am waiting to see Brisbane-Tokyo or Brisbane-Cairns-Tokyo show up on Jetstar A330.
