Is there still no other option other than a $50 visa for a less than 24 hr transit in Jakarta?
Our travel plans got stuffed around so now we are arriving 7:30 am on Qatar, departing 8:45 pm on Qantas to Sydney. I understand there is no way to get around this? And cheaper to get the visa in advance….

Correct, there is no transit visa, just the normal tourist visa. Now, if it was all on one ticket and you already had boarding passes so you didn’t need to collect any baggage or go landside to check in, in theory, you could spend the entire day in terminal three and not pay for a visa. Convincing someone you were doing a transfer would be the first part and then being walked upstairs is the second. It can be done, it’s just very rare.

Better to just head somewhere in the city or get a day room for the period.

No difference in cost between eVOA prior to arriving or getting the VOA at the desk in the arrivals section of the airport. It’s easier with eVOA though.

Rare indeed. I've done it a couple of times, but obviously only with a BP in hand. You first of all have to find the transfer desk, then find the person who should be manning it and then convince them that they should be helping you.

But that's the fun of CGK. Is it worth $50 I wonder?

Haha thanks Clifford and Scarlett :) yes unfortunately we are not checked through. I might just give it a try - I have 12 hours to kill and it’s $100 cause there are two of us! :)
You might be able to get a day room nearby. Hotels are pretty cheap (on top of the $50). Still worth it if you were avoiding the Australia Tax.

We’ve o/n multiple times on seperate tix…
