J Seat Selection QF107 and 108

Have just booked my first J flight to NY and back on QF107 and 108. I really only fly for leisure and probably wouldn't have ever bothered with flying up at the pointy end if it wasn't for this site and all your great ideas and information that is on here. Now I chase points and intend in future to do all my long haul flying business or better. This flight will just get me to Gold with 11 days left in my QFF year so thank you all very much for helping me to get there

Don't know what seats are available at this stage but are there any I should be trying for or just as importantly avoiding. Also, I notice that I can only select seats on the first leg each way and when returning wonder if there is anyway I can put in a seat request for the LAX-SYD leg

Looking forward to heaps of advice, it is much appreciated

Depending on day of travel there is a tiny possibility that you can get an F seat on your J ticket. Look for 1 2 1 in zone A downstairs. You should be able to select seats for SYD LAX SYD and need to call for LAX JFK LAX.

I was able to select seats online for LAX-JFK on July 28 - what's the reason for needing to call?

(managed to get 1A and 1K in the old F cabin as well and just praying that there isn't an aircraft substitution!

Will do some more checks tomorrow but it used to be that the 747 from SYD changed into the 330 from AKL. QF website could not handle the aircraft swap seat selection on the same segment.

LAX JFK is being operated by the BNE originated ER in three class lately.

Maybe because I head to LAX on QF93 the day before it is allowing me to do seat selection on QF107. I did think it strange that no other seats in J are selected on my flight...
